GTX 1070 8GB - DVI works, HDMI does not. But HDMI port works to the TV

So just as the title says, I have a GTX 1070 8GB - DVI works, HDMI does not. Yet HDMI works to the TV.

I initially went through the setup. Used DVI to HDMI to my TV (which works), then when I plugged the headset in, the setup even said ok and it sees it. But then when its time to put the headset on, nothing. I swap from HDMI to DVI, it works. I know the HDMI port on my video card works, because it works going to my TV. I know the cord works on my headset, because DVI works.

So I am stumped, being the HDMI port works, why would it work to my TV, but not to my headset?

What is the actual model of your card?

The rift is very sensitive to signal quality, most TV's are a lot more forgiving.

Exact model is MSI Gaming GeForce GTX 1070 8GB GDDR5 SLI DirectX 12 VR Ready Card.

I'm stumped why my headset sees HDMI when plugged in, but then its ready to put it on - nada. Yet TV sees it. I'm almost glad TV sees it for now, because it saves on some of the troubleshooting. TV works on both HDMI and DVI. Rift only works on DVI.

When you did the initial setup, was the Rift pugged via the DVI to HDMI adapter?

Did you re-run the setup when you plugged the rift into the HDMI port?

Yep, was plugged in to HDMI prior to set up. When plugged in, got the check - and it sees it. When it says its time to put on the headsets to finish setup, nothing. When its swapped to DVI, get a picture in googles.

I hate using adapters, so straight HDMI into my video card was done during setup. Like I said, I know its not a cable nor HDMI issue, because HDMI works to my TV, and the cord going into my Rift works with DVI, just not the other way around.

I honestly have no idea, one thing that could be causing the issue is some sort of setting within the GPU drivers. You could, in theory, uninstall the GPU drivers completely using DDU (https://www.wagnardsoft.com/) and then re-install them.

I also did that. Uninstalled. Rolled back to an older one. Everything. I'm so stumped lol.

Hey there, you should try changing the HDMI wire of the Rift.
I know, you think it's not a wire problem, but hear me out ^^. I had a similar issue with a PS3 a few years ago : the console plugged with an HDMI cable into a TV. The TV would work, the cable would work, and the console would work. But, somehow, the combination of those three wouldn't work.

It's weird and I still can't explain it, but it does happen. Change the HDMI wire, that's the only thing I can advise ^^.

I had that issue before. I don't remember what exactly I did to fix it though. Have you tried unplugging the cable on the Headset itself and plugging it back in? I have definetly had problems before that got resolved through that.
