Games not Loading in HMD

Ozmodion
Explorer

I have recently got myself a new laptop, RTX3080 based and all the bells and whistles that go with it. Previously I was running on desktop with my Rift CV1.

I tried the rift on the laptop today and for some reason certain games (the ones i want to play) will not load into the HMD.

So, The Climb, Elite Dangerous, Microsoft Flight Sim and Project Cars 3 all refuse to load into the HMD. I can get the home space in the HMD, go into the library and select the game i want. It then goes to the loading page and then stays there with "loading..." in the bottom left corner. Looking on the laptop the game loads and starts to play. I get sound through the HMD and also get head tracking.

I also try to load the games through SteamVR to no avail, and on Microsoft Flight Sim you have to load it in 2D and then select 3D in-game, still does nothing.

There are some games like Dead and Buried that work fine in the HMD which tells me its not a headset issue.

anyone had this problem and has a solution for my problem?

Hey there, @Ozmodion! You got a great early present there.

You should have no problems running your games with the RTX3080, but we recommend that you check your drivers to see if they are up to date. will leave you a link that will be useful here.

Let us know if it helps

Hi there,

apologies for not getting back to you earlier but i have been away from my PC for a while and unable to test it.

I have updated all my drivers to the latest and tested it again and it still does not load most games. Like i said in the original post, a few select games work ok which tells me that the hardware is working fine.

I still need help and to clarify, i have the Oculus rift CV1 not the S.

Hey it's good to hear from you again @Ozmodion! Thanks for that update.

The next step is to ensure that the apps are running through your GPU rather than the integrated card.

We hope this will help!

Hi,

I have attempted to try to see if the Oculus headset that is connected to the HDMI port on my Laptop is running through the 3080 GPU.

As far as i can tell it is not and is connected via the AMD Radeon (TM) Graphics.

I have 2 graphics cards listed in the Device Manager, The AMD one and the NVIDIA RTX3080. If i disable the AMD graphics card in the Device Manager then the headset does not work at all. there is only 1 HDMI port on my laptop that the headset can be plugged into.

Is there a way to force the 3080 GPU to use the HDMI slot instead of the AMD card?

EDIT: I have just loaded up Elite Dangerous on a normal monitor that is plugged into the HDMI slot on my laptop. I went into Settings/Display to see what graphics card it was using and it states the 3080. This tells me that the slot can be used by both graphics cards.

I went back to the headset and the game still does not load fully. It goes from the homescreen to the loading screen of Elite Dangerous but the game loads on the monitor only and not in the headset as per the original problem stated above.

Thank you for getting back to us. Ok so here is what we would like you to try:

  • Open the "Nvidia Control Panel."
  • Click "3D Settings" > "Manage 3D Settings."
  • Click the "Program Settings" tab.
  • On the "Global Settings tab," locate and select the "Preferred graphics processor" option.
  • From the list, select "High-performance Nvidia Processor."
  • Click Apply.
