Google Earth High Temperature Problem - fix found

Sorry if this is in the wrong discussion area.

Crazy problem with Google Earth VR!

Last week, A friend of mine was looking to buy a house and she wanted me to check it out in VR, so the next morning I turned on Google Earth VR.  I wasn't in a hurry to put on my headset, but the game was active, mirrored and tracking.   Then my video card started to whine, and my temps climbed to maximum and I was getting thermal throttling in less than 2 minutes.  My load and usage were both at a solid 100% as well.
I have my video card max temp set to about 86C, I don't overclock or use any third party software anymore, OTT etc.
The whine is not like a "coil whine" that I've seen in videos.  It's pretty faint.  Trying to find something to compare it to.. As faint as music playing through headphones while sitting on your desk.

(additional info:  I tried setting my fans to max, and it's not enough to slow down the heat increase in the slightest.  I also closed the app and manually adjusted my fans to different ranges to see if I could make that whine, no luck.  I've DDU uninstalled and installed old driver (385.28) and reinstalled new driver again.)

I was really worried that my video card was breaking down.
I found though, when I put on the headset, the whine immediately stopped and my temps dropped to around 45C or lower.  Take it off, and up it goes again. Place my finger in front of the proximity sensor, and back to normal the temps go.

So I contacted my card's manufacturer, and looked for help in some forums, then it occured to me to open my Steam version of Google Earth VR.  It runs perfectly.  No heat up or anything.  I just finished removing both steam and oculus versions and starting fresh, and sure enough, same problem.  Oculus runs hot, Steam doesn't.

Is anyone else having this problem?  Or willing to do a quick test of the Oculus version?

Yes, I did a quick test and found the same behaviour.
I started the Google Earth VR from the Oculus Desktop App. GPU temp rose fairly quickly at first then slowed, after a couple of minutes it was 72 and still slowly rising.
I then covered the sensor with my finger and the temp. dropped to around 60. Finger off, and up she went again.

For me that means, don't start an Oculus app unless to intend to use it.

I think it's something they need to address though  because it's crazy for something to be winding up your GPU when the headset isn't on.

Please note that the very GPU intensive "Mountain Goat Mountain" does not have this problem.

Thanks Richooal, I'm really grateful for you taking the time, and the info.  I'm glad it's not just mine.. you have no idea what a relief that is after worrying for over a week.  Yeah, I prefer using Oculus Home, I'll definitely put the headset on quickly haha.  I did want to get a discussion going so maybe Google can work on it.

So, I found a fix...  I was overclocking for another game..   Really, nothing big.  I go to Google Earth in Steam and see it's running very cold.. lower than normal, and I loaded the Oculus Home version, and it's fixed fully!  Even removing the overclock, it's just back to normal.  I can't explain it, but it's working just fine.

All of my games that were running hot seemed to have cooled off.
