Gorilla Tag on Rift Stuck on loading screen

PrivatePeekis
Honored Guest

My son bought gorilla tag for his rift and it used to work just fine. For the past few weeks he has not been able to play the game. The game starts up and then just gets stuck on the loading screen. The Rift always shows the loading screen, the pc monitor shows his gorilla in the tree house with the chalkboards in it. That is as far as the game goes. We have plugged and re-plugged all the cables multiple times. Uninstalled and reinstalled the game multiple times. As well as deleting the whole gorilla tag folder. I am at a loss on what I should do next. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hey @PrivatePeekis, we understand that you're gone through some troubleshooting steps but are still running into the same issue with Gorilla Tag on the Rift headset. From here there are only a few more things to try, those would be a full PC restart if you have not done that yet to make sure that any troublesome background processes are shut off, and if that does not get things working, a full uninstall and reinstall of the Oculus app on your PC with the following steps:

  1. Disconnect the Rift/Link cable from the computer
  2. Disconnect your computer from the internet
  3. Backup any necessary content
  4. Reboot into Safe Mode
  5. Uninstall the Oculus PC app using the Control Panel
  6. Delete all Oculus folders from the following folder:
    • C:\Program Files
  7. Remove any Oculus folders from the following locations:
    • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData
    • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Local
    • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\LocalLow
    • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Roaming
    • C:\OculusSetup-DownloadCache
    • Note: The AppData folder is usually hidden. Use these steps to access AppData.
      1. Press Windows key + R to launch the Run dialog window.
      2. Type %AppData% in the Run box and click OK or press Enter
      3. File Explorer will launch to the AppData\Roaming subfolder.
      4. Click AppData in the File Explorer address bar to show all three subfolders in the AppData location.
  8. Restart your computer in normal mode
  9. Reconnect your computer to the internet
  10. Install the Oculus PC app again using the setup tool from our website here
  11. Reconnect the Rift/Link cable and re-test the headset

If you go through these steps and they do not get things running smoothly, the next step would be to reach out to the game's developers directly to report the issue.

Hopefully these steps gets things working for you though, let us know if there is anything else we can take a look into!

Hey @PrivatePeekis, thanks for taking time out of your day to reach out to us! We want to help get your son back into playing as quickly as possible. Is this by chance happening with any other games or just Gorilla Tag? In the mean time we do have a few recommendations for getting the headset to display Gorilla Tag properly on the headset:

  • Ensure that all cables are being plugged into the required ports, USB 3.0(usually indicated by a blue coloring inside of the port) and the HDMI is plugged into the graphic card ports and not the motherboard
  • Ensure that the PC still remains within the minimum system requirements found here
  • If you are using any adapters and cable extenders, please remove them and use the base cables that are attached to the headset only
  • If you happen to have multiple monitors plugged in, try unplugging them until you only have one monitor active and then attempting to play it again. If using a TV as a monitor by chance, those may work, but are unsupported and we'd recommend plugging in a desktop monitor.
  • Updating the graphics drivers for your GPU

If there are still issues even after trying all of these steps, would you be able to upload a photo of the cables you are using? We hope this helps out in getting Gorilla Tag to show up, but if not, please let us know and we would be more than happy to help look further into this!

There was a graphics driver update. I installed the update but the game still freezes on the loading screen. I am not using any adapters, I am also using the cables that came with the rift. I I know this game works on this computer because the game was working fine a couple weeks ago.

did u fix it? its happening the same with me

No nothing yet, have you tried other games? Do they freeze as well?
