I have recently bought both a gtx 970, specifically a 4gb jet stream 970. At the same time I bought an oculus rift cv 1, which once I managed to set it up works well with my gtx 1050, apart from the occasional frame drops. However when I try to connect to my 970 using a mini DP to hdmi adapter my oculus does not work. When I first put it on it will work for 2 - 10 seconds and then the screen will go black (turn off) and only the sound will play... This happens every time I restart my computer.
Now I have noticed that only 1 mini display port out of the 3 seems to give signal to my monitor (when using the same adapter) but that one still doesn’t work with my rift. This is annoying because I have not yet tried games with better graphics than ‘OrbusVr’ because I feel that I really need to be using my gtx 970 instead of 1050 for that. If anyone has run into a problem similar to this before or may know a solution I would be very thankful to know it.
my Pc specs in case this has something to do with it: GtX 1050 (oculus works with) or GtX 970 (oculus does not work) - required mini display port to hdmi and only has one working... core i5 8400 8gb ram corsair VS 450
It should work with a 970 even if that is minimum. You are getting sound but not video so your pc is pushing it but maybe not enough on the video end.
I had the same issue with my laptop a few years ago. Try a hdmi extender they are cheap from pretty much any audio video store and it might solve your issue like it did mine.
