HDMI and Headset USB keep disconnecting every few seconds

I just recieved my CV1 after using the DK2 for quite some time. Hours of trouble shooting and trolling about these forums, reddit, etc and I'm at the point I'm not sure what else to do.

What's happening is during the setup process of my new device (in the Oculus software) I reach the step "Connect your rift headset and oculus sensors" Everything gets checked off green for a few seconds then the headset changes to a loading icon, rinse and repeat. (attempting to just go next results in a "there was a problem" esk message whenever the headset drops. After a minute or so of connecting / disconnecting it eventually gives up and just stays disconnected.

I've already tried updating what drivers I could come up with (Video, USB, etc) rebooting, Windows Update, Updating Oculus to the latest beta, uninstalling oculus and reinstalling it, uninstalling a variety of drivers and reinstalling them. digging into power management configurations, swapping to every imaginable combination of USB ports (both 2.0 and 3.0) Going with no adapters, trying adapters, trying HDMI straight, adapting HDMI to Display, etc. Nothing seems to have made any form of meaningful impact on the situation with the CV1 (my sanity may have been meaningfully impacted during this process)

I have also tried reseating all of the cables (on both the headset itself and the appropriate ports, At this point I'm grasping for straws, I am absolutely seeing things in the logs that might help, but I think any ability to concentrate left me hours ago, so please if anyone can help I'd greatly appriciate it.

Update: I think we've nailed the cause of my issues. There was a bent pin in my HDMI cable that plugs into the computer. Just updated my support ticket so hopefully we can get a replacement cable on it's way

I don't buy their "Bent HDMI Pin" claim.  Did they use the lowest quality HDMI connectors they could find?  My prediction is that you will be opening up another support ticket in the not so distant future and the ultimate resolution to this problem is going to be an entire replacement of the headset.

I think you have a bad solder joint where the USB cable connects directly to the rift.  When it starts getting bad, if you barely brush your hand on the left side of the headset it will disconnect, at least mine did.

Had to edit my post for clarification, I stated that i had 2 CV1, when ACTUALY I have a CV1 AND a DK2.

The DK2 is the one that keeps cutting in and out after 5 mins of use.

The CV1 is flawless in operation with the touch.

My DK2 USED to be able to play long sessions of ELITE and War Thunder, 10hrs at a time.

Now whenever i try to do anything longer than 5 min, the DK2 seems to act like some one hit the POWER button on the top right side, and the whole thing "reconnects" to the computer.

Not sure if any of this is still something that you all are having problems with. But having my DK2 as a backup for Cockpit stuff and flying sure is nice. Would like to keep this hardware running if at all possible.

I wonder if its newer updates to the oculus software and store that has interferred with the DK2 just being used as a HMD

I'd like to take one all the way apart and see how it's put together.  Not going to do that on my new one.

I agree with Falken76, it behaves like some intermittent connection type of failure.

My connectors on both ends were just fine.  No junk in them, either.

My headset started doing this a few months ago and I had the same issue - headset would disconnect every 2-5 minutes, reconnect, let me look at the prompt and then just come back black (with sound).

What I've discovered is that it ONLY happens when I start my PC with my Rift already connected.
If I wait until my system has booted and I've signed in, then connect my Rift, it doesn't happen.

Give it a try and see if that help?

Edit: Just figured I'd throw out there that it doesn't screw up every time I start my PC with the headset connected, but it never does it if I connect once the system is fully up!

Gonna try this and a few other things from this board today, thanks for everyone and the help reviving this issue.

I have no bent pins on either HDMI or the usb cable on my DK2 and just runs perfectly for 2-5 mins then does a hard reset while its turned on.

updated my Graphx drivers and a few other things, moved sensor closer. Still getting 5 mins tops playtime with it when i used to fly in ELITE and War Thunder for like 10 hrs at a time. So i KNOW the unit definatly can handle the long sessions, just havent used it in a few months. So Ill update if I can pinpoint the issue and if any of the above suggestions work. Thanks!!

So I think Ive pinned my issues down to my MOBO and the USB hubs just powering off randomly during use. I have had the same issues with my logitech wireless headset, but so does everyone else who has had the same one that i know of, so didnt think much of it.

Elite can play completely fine with my rig for the longest now almost 10 min, but eventually my USB will drop and then I lose my headset view....
It turns back on after a short bit of time, but now wont reconnect to games and apps like it used to months ago after a shutdown. Super Sadface 😞

So I think if i get a POWERED USB hub tomorrow i can solve my issues.

As i have typed this ive had 2 disconnect and reconnects with my USB hubs on prolly my DK2 or my Logi Headset, so maybe a powered hub will resolve more than one issue.

I had a powered hub up until about 2 hrs ago that had a short in the usb connection at the hub end, and that just broke off completely now, so i gotta get a new one tomorrow.

Will update if this solves my disconnection issues on my DK2, getting close, and i know the unit itself works FLAWLESSLY when playing cuz i get no lag or anything. It just freaking disconnects while in use and then it wont reconnect back into the video.

EDIT: Also on trying restart of pc with the unit unplugged doesnt work for me, still will only get a few mins of gameplay then it disconnects on me.

That makes some sense.  If the Rift is pulling a lot of power, maybe a conventional USB port doesn't have the foundation to support the demands.

I'll be interested in your conclusion after some time passes.

SUCCESS!!!!

Powered USB hub was the answer. I didnt think it was working in the past but since i found out my old powered hub had a short in it, I went out and bought a powered hub and plugged all my rift stuff and headset into it.

Did a full 20 min delivery mission in ELITE, bout to eat some lunch and then try to fly in War Thunder.

If this solved my issues then i think you guys can see more on my  twitch channel tonight!!

https://www.twitch.tv/chachi_sanchez

Gonna start flying and racing in my freetime again, while waiting for Star Citizen 3.0 alpha to drop next month!!

That august eclipse gonna be a sign of a great and many things methinks!!

Not a single drop out of connection on my DK2 today thus far. IF all goes well i'll be flying tonight!!

Thanks for all the help and support from the thread and hope that my info helps others.
