HDMI is not connected. Can't connect headset with the computer.

Hello guys!
I am running the oculus rift setup and I have plugged in the USB and HDMI cables for the Rift Headset. The USB connection is fine , but the HDMI is not connected( it shows a spinning circle). The oculus rift is the consumer version, and I have tried to run it in two differents laptop. The first one has  two graphics cards : NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX960M  graphic card & INTEL Graphic HD. And it has only one HDMI Port.  The  headset  shows only an orange light, but no screen.
The second laptop has a NVIDIA GEFORCE GT 750M and INTEL graphic HD. In this case, when I connect the headset  , it shows a white light , and in the headset I can see the screen of my PC as a monitor. Anyway it still says that the HDMI is not connected. When I play the demo video from the library in the headset it is not displayed as a VR video.
I have updated all drivers of the graphics cards.
Also in the oculus app it says that the firmware can be updated , but there is no way to update it from that menu.
Both laptops has only on HDMI port(and I guess it is connected to the dedicated graphic card ).
Please share  if  anyone has a solution  or information for this problem.
Thank you.

You should always make sure your PC is compatible by running the checker from the oculus website.  If it is then make sure that the HDMI cord that goes into your headset is plugged in all the way by pressing down on the "rubber mask" part and pushing in the cord the same direction it is headed.  That usually is the issue from what I have seen and experienced.

I have an older laptop I tried to get my Rift working on to diagnose another problem, that also has an Nvidia Optimus setup (old nvidia graphics and intel hd graphics). I only tried for an hour or so but did find that Nvidia control panel did not show the Rift at all, however the Intel display control panel showed the Rift as an external TV that was disabled, I could not enable it. I gave up after this but did think the drivers might need checking to make sure the correct drivers are installed for the Rift?

The HDMI connection on my laptop seems to be to the Intel graphics chip which probably didn't help (some research suggested they normally are). I was only doing it to test a problem, but might be worth checking the drivers if you need to try and get it working. Although it may not help at all either!

I already use the compatibility tool. Only the graphic card is not compatibile (but anyway I still think that it's not the real issue). As for the HDMI cord I guess it's ok because using another laptop I already get the signal (I can see the screen of my Pc as monitor on Rift Headset)

Pretty much the same happened to me.
The drivers of Rift software are up-to-date , the firmware of Rift is outdated (but there isn't an option to update ).
It may be that the HDMI connection is on the Intel Chip as you said( but there is no way to know it for sure)..
The strange thing is that from one laptop I get the signal to headet(the screen as a monitor) but in the other nothing, completely black..

It won't work on those laptops. The HDMI port is connected to the Intel HD graphics chip, which is not supported for the Rift.

Also, both of those Nvidia chipsets are below the minimum spec for the Rift.

That is exactly the problem. Most older laptops (with models ending in M and especially if they include Optimus) simply won't work at all. It's best to use a desktop machine with Rift, though some newer laptops with desktop graphics (like GTX 1060) can work.

This is why you should run the compatibility app BEFORE you buy the Oculus or Vive...You have to have a compatible graphics card if you want to run VR.  Not to be mean but just because YOU think your PC is good enough to push VR doesn't mean it ACTUALLY is.
