Headset lost tracking

GRIZZLY84
Honored Guest

I have had this Headset for only 17 days and everything was going great until an hour ago. I had to attend some personal business and decided to save my battery power by turning off the headset. I come back, turned it on and started getting "lost tracking" messages, the screen image is unstable and the controller positions are wonky. I turned it off then on again, same result. I restarted, same result. I have no idea who to do here, all the forums have no definite fix for this and I would like to get my Headset back up and running ASAP. The support page has pre-made options to tell them what's wrong, but the options don't line up with what's happening here, and there's no "other/Miscellaneous" option to remedy that. If Meta could contact me about this, I would really appreciate it. In the mean time I will let my headset rest over night and turn back on tomorrow to see if it's a temporary glitch, but judging from the amount of posts about this issue; I'm not holding my breath...

Hey there,

Thanks for airing your concern regarding the loss in tracking.

In order to try and get you back up and running, please follow these troubleshooting steps:

1. Make sure the tracking is turned on

By default, the headset will use 6DoF tracking, unless it has been turned off in the Guardian settings panel or lost tracking while in VR.

  • Click on the clock on the left side of the universal menu
  • Select Settings
  • Select System from the Settings panel
  • Select Headset Tracking from the left side panel
  • Make sure Headset Tracking is ticked

2. Clear your boundary history

Bear in mind that if you have multiple accounts on the same headset, boundary history will be cleared for all accounts, not just the account you are currently using.

  • Press the Oculus/Meta logo on your right controller
  • Click on the clock on the left side of the universal menu
  • Select Settings
  • In the settings panel, select Boundary
  • Select 'Clear Boundary history'
  • Redraw your Guardian boundaries by selecting 'Adjust Boundary' from the Boundary settings menu

3. Remove any unsupported third-party accessories that may affect tracking or pairing.

Let us know how you get on with this!

I apologise for the late reply. The tracking issue resolved itself after I turned it off and left it for the night. Once I turned it back on the following day, the tracking was back to normal and I was able to play again. I have no idea why the tracking bugged out but if it happens again, I'll let you know what happened before it beforehand...
