Headset stuttering

I've been trying to troubleshoot some consistent headset stuttering that I have in normal rift usage. I get tiny stutters in everything I play. I've been centring on just the headset running in home where nothing is happening and I have a 50% processor overhead or so. I still get these little stutters in home even though I've got 50% free on the processor. Using the performance overlay I can see that I'm losing compositor frames every minute or so and mostly the overhead is consistent even though the drops are happening.

I've also tried using the lost frame capture utility on the debug panel. Running it seems to show about 40-50 lost frames per 10000. I don't however know if this is to be expected or shows a hardware issue.

My hardware is a 4Ghz I5, 16gig ram, 1080ti, Windows 10 system. I'm running 3 sensors and don't have any issues with controller tracking. If anyone else could run the lost frame capture utility in debug with a similar spec of system and let me know how many lost frames they get while doing nothing in home that would maybe help identify whether I've got an issue or not. I don't of course expect no lost frames. Just seem to be getting more than I think should happen.

It's not uncommon for there to be a few dropped frames here and there, especially with intensive games. In general, ASW should mask some of these infrequent drops and you should not be able to notice while playing. If you are getting stuttering, it could mean there is a problem (beyond just the dropped frames). It sounds like your machine is powerful, but it could be a software issue, such as anti-virus or other background service.

Yeah I've been trying going through background stuff and stopping what I can. It had actually gotten much worse and I thought I had found the source when I removed Aorus graphic engine. when I had that installed I was getting a hitch every 5-10 seconds.

I've checked virus stuff (Eset), mostly everything in the tray or startup and anything else I could stop through task manager. I'm wary when it comes to windows processes and services though so I've left them alone.

So if its another piece of software on my machine, or background service, is there anything out there that can help track that kind of thing down.

I've tried using task manager and afterburner to track cpu/gpu load/temp while stutters are happening and there's not the slightest clue in those anything is going on. In home, my cpu has a lot of headroom and the gpu is barely taxed at all. Temps are low, cpu is water cooled and I can see no clues. Like I mentioned above I've also tried the lost frame capture tool but that just confused the issue and shows many more lost frames than I see in the headset.

The only thing I've noticed on any of the graphs is on the compositor render section of the visual hud. When a stutter happens a compositor frame is lost. The cpu usage shows no spike but the Compositor render overlay shows a huge timing spike on the compositor. No real idea what that points to though. CPU and GPU readings at same time are minimal.

Try closing AfterBurner itself, if you haven't already.
