Help, I dont know how to explain it in a title? Um opens game in addition to Steam VR?

I have this issue with Elite Dangerous and it seems only Elite Dangerous. Whenever I launch it through steam VR it opens another thingy, see below.

i2qie2k4fc2v.jpegThe problem with this is that I can't use other tools whilst it does this as this white zigzag box is a separate thing. It's like it's on top of Steam VR and not actually SteamVR.

Any tools I use - I run in Steam, so they don't show in this separate white zigzag window. See below.

This should be visible whilst playing Elite, but it's not because of this two application thingy.

Things to note, I used to have Elite run through the Oculus library, but I uninstalled it to run via steam so that I could use these tools.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

The white zig zag thing is an oculus loading screen for the game. It sometimes doesn't pull loading pictures from 3rd party software. If elite dangerous has been pinned to your oculus library, try loading it from there instead. The loading screen can be put in manually but you should be able to link ED to oculus from steam via aka from your frontier downloads. I can't exactly remember how to do it. Oculus must be open when you use rift with software. Not just steam vr
 its own.

As mentioned, launching through Steam VR will also need to go through Oculus so by choosing to use Steam VR (which will work fine for the game) you are adding an extra step to the process. I'm not sure which tool(s) you're using specifically but do they work better if you run them first?

First of all can i just say thank you very much for getting back to me.

I used to be able to play elite from steam fine, it would load oculus home as its required to do, but it wouldnt take over and give me this white zigzag AND steam. It would just be steam vr that id pay attention to and oculus home would be running in the background.

The issue i have now is that oculus thinks im running it through them, not through steam and wont let steam have control even when im loading it through steam. So i cant use steam tools.

Im trying to use OVRdrop and Nexhud. Which are only steamvr compatible. I want these because oculus version of pinning desktops etc is awful, and theres no alternative that suits my needs. Like making windows transpareny etc.

Ive tried running it without oculus home booting up via starting as admim, but then i dont get any picture at all in the headset despite it showing on the monitor like its in vr.

I think we're going to need to open a ticket up! There's quite a few things going on which we're going to need to have 1 on 1 time with. Please create a Support ticket here:

And hopefully from there, we can sort you out.

Oddly enough, now I cant even run Elite through SteamVr. I can see the game load up on the desktop, and if I move the HMD around I can see the view move around, but it does not show in the HMD. And IF you look in the HMD all it shows is "UP NEXT: ELITE DANGEROUS" in the steam VR view.
