The following links are simply a way of me using this post as ... essentially a catch all for 'bookmarks' referencing the Rift Home. I'm using a Quest 2 tethered via USB in order to leverage the power of my graphics card for higher-end rendering.
I understand that the Rift is being/ has been deprecated (retired, end of life) in favour of the Quest line, though many users still opt to tether their Quest headsets for the same reasons that I do and that facility is currently through the Rift link software.
Meta used to offer information on customising the home environments and I would like to see this aspect brought back to the fore with the new generation of tethered Home - still retaining Home as a 'pretty app launcher' or tethered gui, but with all the additional features that the Rift Home offered.
I may not have the ability to actually build a fully featured, high-end home environment by myself, but I could certainly contribute to a community if we were able to take ownership of the customisation for ourselves. Maybe the answer is evolution into a standalone app that can replace the default launcher?
Anyway, for information:

I just came across this idea and it got me thinking that this would be another huge win for hand gesture functionality - a hand/finger shape/gesture to open the camera app and two handed gesture to frame your shot... maybe some options for default aspect ratios or ignore all for your hands to set the frame boundaries (?)
...
A 'garage' would be a nice feature for those who are engaged in developing automotive/transport digital assets. If the user had control over the 'walls', they could define the size of their 'garage' based on how many vehicles, trains, aircraft etc... they are fitting in that space. Essentially, I'm proposing a Home environment with moveable walls. One implementation could be to click a 'customise' button which would take the user to a floorplan of their existing home to edit further.

I swear if Meta's next step is to disable my headset entirely (Rift CV1) by 'discontinuing' the Oculus application, in the same way they 'discontinued' Home by ACTIVELY DISABLING IT... I will personally start a class action lawsuit on behalf of the entire country of Australia - as this move fundamentally breaks every consumer law we have here. MARK. MY. WORDS.

I have a Quest 2 myself, but I support that entirely. If you buy the device it should be usable until it breaks, periods. And then still usable if you get it repaired or replace it. Its bad enough these companies 100% operate on a philosophy of integrated flaws and designed obsolescence as it is, but to add in this kind of move on software for the thing they already intentionally built less sturdy than they could have is adding insult to injury.

I think it's just time to 100% block the software from accessing the internet so it CAN'T update. It's the only way to keep these filthy scumbags from screwing things up even more.
This seems to work very well. Protect yourselves and the THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS you've spent from further corporate greed, in the name of "not supported".

Please Meta, the PC VR community needs a home. Taking away our PC VR homes is not what this community needs. Is there any way to potential get our homes assets back or potentially make the original Homes app open source to the PC VR community? At the very least, is there a plan in the works to give us back a home?

So all of our unlocked rewards from purchases over the years are not even viewable? I loved my rainbow unicorn. I didn't even get to say goodbye to my gaming buddy.

Well that's just great. I shell out 500 bucks for a headset. Then they rip out basically part of the operating system. And before you even get started on it doesn't affect the actual system no it doesn't. But it's the same arguement that got graphic user interfaces to be a thing in the first place. It's an aesthetic and quality of life addon. The same as the browser we now use instead of manually entering telnet addresses and bulletin boards.
