Horizon App Not Finding Headset Meta Quest 3

57flwm
Honored Guest

My phone Horizon app cannot find my headset.  I've reset the headset to enter a static IP to connect to my network.  No joy.  I let my DHCP server automatically connect to my wireless network.  No joy.  In both instances the headset connected to the internet.

The headset is connected to the internet through my router (Asus RT-AX86s).  The headset has updated each time I reset it.

My phone (LG G6) is on the same network.

The Quest 3 is not displayed in my router's connected devices.  My phone does appear.

The headset is stuck on the screen displaying the code.  The app is stuck on the pairing screen.

When I enter the code in the app the last digit doesn't display, but after I enter the final digit the app searches for my headset.

I am at a loss.  Please help.  I do not want to return the Quest 3.  Thank you.

Hey there @57flwm! Thanks for posting! We know you're eager to get this figured out, so let's get to the bottom of this! We'd like to ask you a few questions to help us determine how to assist.

  • Are both your headset and the mobile app up to date?
  • You've mentioned that they are on the same network, but are they on the same frequency?
  • You said that you reset, was this a factory reset?
  • Are you using any type of WiFi extenders?
  • Is dual band enabled on your router? (Disabling this will ensure that both the headset and the router stay on the same channel)
  • Any other troubleshooting you have attempted (Just so we're not running around in circles)

We appreciate you taking the time to get this information over to us, we're looking forward to your response!

Also having this issue! Same band, same network, everything up to date, and factory reset with same result. this is really frustrating.

I am having this same issue. I am using fritzbox 7510 router which has only 2.4ghz, so no question of connected to different bands. Horizon app just keeps looking for headsets, and when I exit the app I get a pop up with the headset image and a "set up" button. When I click on it the horizon app opens and nothing else happens. Then I repeat this process to no avail.

Headset keeps displaying the 5 digit code and on top it says that it is up to date. The app is up to date too as I uninstalled and reinstalled it several times from play store.

Also when I open the router page, I can see both the headset and my phone under connected devices.

I am sending the headset back if this issue is not resolved.

It is frustrating but the headset is not faulty and was worth the persistence.

Factory reset fixed my issue after fixing the band issue. It isn't the playstore app itself.

I had to disable my "auto band routing" to split them into discrete bands.

I had to also set up port forwarding on my router just in case as I was also struggling with the airlink which I had to uninstall and delete oculus software from my PC for (deleting the user/app data folder completely and manually adding the new oculus/quest/airlink to the windows firewall and even went as far as discrete port forwarding  (Meta this is a problem constantly renaming and changing the brand of your software).

I also added these to my router!

If that still doesn't work try just using your cell/mobile and hotspot to get past this for now. Connect the quest directly to the hotspot. You may also need to tell the hotspot what band to use.

Thirdly go to a friends house that has a Quest 3 and go thru set up there.

4. You may need a new router.

I got mine working in the end just through factory reset and stepping thru everything again after fixing the router issues.

Frustrating and confusing why the Quest3 needs this non-standard kind of changing your network structure for itself but I assume it is for the most stable and quality experience.

I will try all these steps tomorrow and give an update. I have already tried hot-spot but it didn't work.

Many thanks for your suggestions mate!

However, I got my issue fixed without performing any of the steps you mentioned. I was just thinking about this stupid requirement of pairing gadgets, when it struck me that when I last had to pair my vacuum robot, I had to turn on Bluetooth too along with location. The vacuum wouldn't let me proceed without turning on Bluetooth. Horizon app only asked for location which I turned on and neither did it say anything about Bluetooth nor it stopped me from proceeding without turning it on.

So I just turned on the Bluetooth and tried again, it found the headset and paired within seconds. So people, don't forget to turn the Bluetooth on along with location.

Horizon app should require you to turn the Bluetooth on as well; Meta missed this and I should be paid to have found this out.

Nice catch! Glad you got it up and running and just in time for the weekend as well! Happy Questing!

If this is your first I highly recommend Pistol Whip.

you saved us all from wasting time trying to find a solution. thanks man.
i didn't even think that bluetooth affects the pairing process. and i guess many people don't know either.
