Can someone please explain how I get a 6Ghz frequency on my Quest 3? My router from my isp only does 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz and the wireless 6, Asus Router x55, which I currently have in access point mode only does 5Ghz frequency and 1200mbp. If I purchased a Wi-Fi 6e router and put it in access point mode would that allow me to connect to get a Wi-fi 6 Ghz frequency on Quest 3? Thank you!
Thankfully, I didn't purchase a new router and instead fixed the stuttering in both Standalone Quest and PC-VR.
Not sure if it helps someone else, but I fixed my stuttering by turning off the 120Hz refresh rate in the Quest 3 settings and also turning the battery saver mode on. This lowers the Refresh rate to 72Hz in standalone mode. I also turned the refresh rate down in the Virtual desktop settings, I have this mostly set to 80Hz or 90Hz depending on the game. For the most part this has fixed both my issues with jitter and stutter in both standalone and PC-VR games.
Not sure if this helps but at the same time I reset my boundaries and deleted the old bounder history. I also used Quest game optimizer, or side Quest and have foveated rendering set to high or medium depending on the game. I think you can change the foveated rendering in the Oculus debug tool too.
True 6ghz Wifi is what we call Wi-Fi 6e. You would get that with a new router but if you are just using the headset as a standalone device (i.e. without a PC) any benefit you get is going to be very marginal.
Thank you for your reply. I am using my Quest 3 for PC-VR, so I was looking to put a Wi-Fi 6e Router into access point mode. If I do this will it give me the 6Ghz frequency in the Meta Quest 3 wireless setting? I currently only have a Wi-Fi 6 and not a Wi-Fi 6e router in access pint mode and it's only connecting to the 5Ghz frequency when I checked in my Quest 3 wireless settings. This is giving me 1200mbs and I'm getting micro stutters when moving side to side in games.
Does anyone have the answer to this question because I'm looking to purchase a Wi-Fi 6e router, if it will give me a 6Ghz frequency in the Quest 3? Yes this router will show up as 6ghz frequency. HOWEVER don't expect any meaningful gains, bumping up your bitrate will increase your latency in other areas such as decoding (the ability of the q3 to piece together the compressed signal)
To give you an idea, WiFi 5 is 1200mbps. Generally you aren't going to go much further than 200mbps without incurring a big latency penalty from either the GPU or from the headset itself. Hency why 6e is kinda overkill
6e is also very poor at penetrating through walls, so you will lose alot if range (this may not be important for you)
The only potential benefit is if you lived in an apartment block that is bombarded by 5ghz signals. Using 6ghz allows you to have a connection that is more stable
That makes sense so thank you for that. I do however have one more question though and this is why I was looking to get Wi-Fi 6e in the first place. I have noticed when playing online PvP games like Breachers, that they start off with really smooth gameplay, but after playing for about 20 minutes I get terrible mico stuttering when moving my player side to side. This is not happening in offline play when I just play against bots. What could be causing this, I've tried everything I can to try and fix it? Thanks again!

Hey there! Thanks for this information! Currently there is an issue where Quest 3 is not detecting Wi-Fi 6e and we do have a thread about this currently here! We know this is about frequency however, just wanted you to know there is a small thread about overall issues with Wi-Fi 6e!
