How do I set up Casting from a child’s account?

Lyndsey123456

We’ve just purchased a quest 3 for my child for his Birthday, we’ve managed to set him up a child’s account supervised from my account (I won’t ever be using the device but set up my account just so I can manage his), but we can’t seem to cast to a tv/phone so we can watch him play? He asks us questions whilst he is playing, but we can’t help as can’t see what he’s doing, it says in order to cast we need to log in as me on the headset but then he wouldn’t be playing on his own account and wouldn’t be safe. Could you please let me know how we can set up casting from his account? Many thanks 😊

Hi there @Volthyzer! Thank you for reaching out! We understand you are curious on why casting from a child account is not an option. At this time, it isn't currently a feature that we offer for child accounts, but this could possibly change in the future, as we are constantly upgrading to fit the enjoyment of our customers. We recommend submitting your idea to our Ideas Forum so that you can possibly be implemented in the future. We hope you find this information helpful and we appreciate you for being apart of our Quest Family!

Hey there, everyone! I know how important it is to view your kids VR experiences so we can help them if they get stuck or see them having a great time. And I want to keep you as informed as I can about what you're experiencing!

At this moment, there is not a way for child accounts to cast from their headset to the mobile app, which would then allow you to cast onto a TV or computer. What I can recommend is that you share this idea on our Ideas Page, where other users and developers are able to view each other's posts and work together to improve VR for everyone. Some ideas that have been posted there have even been implemented in recent updates! I know being able to see my kids playing their games on a big screen would be a great experience for me and my family.

I hope to see your post there!

So in reading some other posts I discovered that while casting to the mobile app from a secondary child account is not currently possible, you can actually cast from a child account to the Chrome web browser after logging in to their account on the browser.   Here are instructions https://www.meta.com/help/quest/articles/in-vr-experiences/oculus-features/troubleshoot-casting-to-a...
I just tested it with my son's account and was able to watch and listen to what he is doing. Hopefully they add this option to the mobile app soon since that is more straight-forward approach for most parents.

Why is this not possible? There is absolutely no reason why this shouldn't be possible. You can cast with a primary account perfectly fine. Why not a child account?

The whole point of a childs account is to be able to monitor gameplay and you literally don't have an option to monitor gameplay!?! How is this even possible that meta wouldn't realize the importance of being able to view children's gameplay while they have the headset on....

Hey, i also think that the lack of this feature is bonkers... but there is a simple work around. Just let the kids use your profile and you use theirs. Then you can watch them via the app!
