How many people have stutter/judder issues happening frequently? Please list specs below regardless.

This has been ridiculous. Since I have owned my rift I am always scared about updating anything because sometimes certain combinations of drivers will make it run flawlessly but as soon as one thing updates it becomes a stuttering mess. I’d love to hear from other people because I know I’m not the only one.

No problems here, ever. All devices show up as USB 3
i7-5820K @ 4.2Ghz, water cooled, Asus X99-Pro USB 3.1, 48 Gb DDR4 2400, Samsung 950 pro M.2 SSD, GTX 980 Ti SC, 750w psu

Thanks for the response Roaster. Please list your pc specs if you don’t mind. Mine also show up as usb 3.0 as well. But  i’m getting strange graphical hangups when things load on the screen. Like events that happen.  Also when walking forward in a game with smooth motion if I turn my head to the left there is a skipping in the graphics. I’m guessing you’re not having anything like that happening?

These issues also are not consistent either sometimes things are real smooth, and other times there is a significant drop in frames.  I only have oculus and steam with no monitoring software or ai suite or antivirus sans windows defender.  I’ve switched USBs a bunch of times as well. It doesn’t matter it always performs the same until an update comes out and maybe fixes it for a short time, then an inevitable update will come out that I have to download and messes up the whole thing again, then trying to reinstall windows to fix. It’s happened to me about 15 times this past year of owning the rift. I wish there was a magic fix...

I had some positional breakdown in Bending the Light, but I think it was due to my orientation to the sensors.
Otherwise it's truly flawless. Except for that weird spiraling motion of the controls in early versions of Medium, but I added ram soon after. I actually installed 64Gb but only 48Gb shows up, never pursued it to find out why.

i7-5820k (socket 2013) 6 core, 12 thd, 28 lanes, right around 4Ghz. Asus X99-Pro USB 3.1 mobo, 48Gb DDR4 ram at 2400, Samsung 950 Pro M.2 SSD, Nvidea GTX 980Ti SC, 750 w psu. Samsung 850 1Tb SSD.
I use a 3' HDMI cable extension to get the connection point in front.
Main monitor is a Dell 1920 x 1200.
Internet over wifi
Every bit of the OVR experience has been plug and play.
All software loaded in default location.

Thank you so much for the very detailed breakdown!  That’s great that you’re not having a lot of problems and I appreciate you posting. I’ve had my issues since I owned my rift so it’s a rarity when a combo of updates comes out that makes it all work perfectly. I think in total I’ve only had one solid month of perfect performance in every game.  My computer guy and me keep playing around with different things to fix it but no matter what it’s usually a problem. Everything else other than VR runs like a dream. I never have any performance problems in anything. I’m also using the 3.0 extenders with three cameras  with two in a fresco logic 3.0 powered hub, and one in my PC’s 2.0.  I just wish there was an answer that we have looked passed.  I have sent my logs more times than I can count and every time they never have a solution for me except reinstall windows but as stated above I’ve done that 15 times and it doesn’t make a difference. I’m pretty sure it’s a software conflict but there is no software on my PC except for Steam and oculus. Frustrating

What cpu and mobo are you using? I like the socket 2011 for sheer number of connections, lots of access to ram. I don't see how a lga 1150 can compare. What's the difference in pci bandwidth? Memory bandwidth? cross-talk across pci lanes?
I just got one of the more expensive mobos at the time hoping for the best (~$350). I wanted the 40 lane processor but it was too rich.

While I am also experiencing what you describe I cannot vote on this because there isnt a poll option that reflects what Im experiencing even though it is congruent with your statement.
You essentially state that there are times between certain driver/firmware combos that the Rift performs as intended, and then there are times after a certain update which results in the stuttering issue, which is why you are afraid of these updates and which I totally agree is happening, but there isnt a poll option to reflect that despite the fact that this is essentially the issue people are having.

Suffice to say Ive also experienced stretches of perfect performance for a couple of months and then suddenly and without any other hardware or software changes on my part I will get the stutters across the board for another couple of months until they magically disappears again. I personally believe it has to do with Oculus firmware or a combination of that and Nvidia drivers...

Guyana I’ve been thinking that a lot as well. I wish Oculus would let you choose to update your drivers. I don’t build my own computer though I go to a computer store that specializes in it. The guy has had a hell of a time trying to get everything to work perfectly with my set up. Driving us both mad!!

Roaster here is what I could dig up.
16g ddr5 intel ram. i6700k cpu, gtx 1080,  i’m not sure on the motherboard but it is a rather recent MSI motherboard made for gaming.
