How to get DK1 to work on Windows 10?

Greetings,

I just did a fresh format and it seems that everything I download to get the dk1 to work has only caused me errors. I installed the new runtime, and it says I need all the new stuff from the CV1, as I plan to get it sometime, now is not the time. I installed the 0.8.8 after that and then restarted my computer and it wouldn't even boot. Like windows wouldn't boot into my computer. That kind of problem. This guy in his video directly points to Oculus https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2f-GorXWkoc

I don't think drivers should be doing that... so, could somebody point me in the right direction to the right driver that won't break my computer? I am so angry and fed up with Oculus they're ditching support for the old tech, when it's perfectly good tech and pretty awesome to boot. I for one enjoy the lower res as it is less cpu intensive, I have a great cpu that supports up to 4k, buuuut I don't want to risk burning anything out as my luck I am prone to that sort of thing happening. I'll wait until I can afford both an oculus and a new cpu/gpu (incase anything happens in the long run.)

Every forum I check seems to run short, I just need to know the definitive answer as I can't go through formatting/restarting again.

Thanks for you help!

Even if you were able to get it working you'd be stuck with very old stuff. As everybody scrambles to target the CV1 with the newest SDK, all last remaining support for DK1 in most games will vanish at once. You need at least DK2 to have any fun, unless you really want to stick to some very old demos or stale versions of (few) games.

Trust me, I have Windows 10. I also have the DK1. It's just too old.

Well, man it's not all about you. Just let me get my thing working and I'll be on my way. 😄 Thanks.

i literally just now tried installing an older runtime to use my old DK1 for some fun while i wait for my vive to be delivered and the exact same thing happened. went to restart after installation, nothing happened, ultimately had to reformat my boot drive. I tried installing 0.4.4 for reference.

massive headache.

If anyone else can find a way to get my old dear working that would be great.

Inaccurate information is inaccurate.  I've been playing the latest stuff on SteamVR.  You just ignore the Oculus stuff like they are ignoring the DK1 and stick to seated and standing Vive titles.

If I may ask, with what SDK version you are running for your DK1? ...on Windows 10?

Also, given that DK1 does not have positional tracking, how are the games working out for you? Or have you got some additional IR etc solution for this?

I would just like to know if there are any programs that are like VorpX, Vireiro, etc... also do you guys have a link to the exact runtime that'll work on Windows 10? (won't crash, or not detect hmd, etc.)

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be hostile or anything alike. I understand that by poking around with the SDK (drivers) one can achieve what's not officially supported with various results. 0.8.0.0 is the version that has Windows 10 support that's stable enough and for some that support is broken if your Windows 10 has the latest updates (nothing is detected anymore or the drivers crash). This is all understandable because the last SDK version to officially support DK1 was 0.6.0.1. All stuff written for SDK level 0.5 (and prior, which is most of the content laying around) was broken when 0.7 was released and remains broken if not recompiled against the newer SDKs.

That being said, if you don't stick to the SDK stuff, I think you might have most luck with OSVR or vorpX, but the later most likely requires a special version directly from the DEVs - you should ask this in their forums. I hope @Melhadf comes around and tells us how he's gotten SteamVR up and running.

Ah yeah, like I had it working before that's thing, and I have video to prove. Even Virtual Desktop was free, now since the format I have to buy (not a problem) I just kind of wish everything was more streamlined as I've bought the DK1 off a friend and at the price of 150 it was a steal. As this being my first introduction to VR it's a pretty good step into it, I want to play around with this as much as I can before I buy the new one. I want the CV1 to feel leaps and bounds ahead, it's good to learn and get familiar with something before you get right into it. The lack of support is disheartening, I get it, but this will be a second vr for when friends/family come over so when they use it I'll spend less time fiddling with programs/crashing pc to get it to work on the other pc.

So the 0.8.0.0 I already have it, but just to be sure could somebody post a link?
