How to record videos with PCVR, and how to find a saved video to use

Hi. Seem to have spent hours Googling to find an answer to this, but nothing works. Can anyone help please?

1. How do I start and stop video recording when my Quest headset is connected to my PC game/sim via a link cable? There is no camera icon on the Link home menu of course (that grey arc). All I can do is to start recording before I connect to link, which means I get all the link connection process recorded too. I then have to close Link to stop recording as well.

Is there a way to get, say, one of the buttons on my left controller to act as start/stop recording?

2. When I have recorded a video in Quest 3 (or Quest 2), where is it? How do I find it and, for example, copy/save it to my PC so as to upload it onto a forum for example?

Thank you.

Hold down the Meta menu button and the right index finger trigger button together for a second until you hear the record beep and see the record red light. Doing it again stops the recording. It shows up under media in your account and on your phone app. If you do the trigger too quickly it takes a picture.

Hi @martinlest unfortunately the Oculus/meta button and first finger trigger press will activate camera or video mode when, depending on the length of press, will only work when the headset is in standalone mode. When link or airlink are running, these camera/video functions are disabled.

If you're using steam VR there are keyboard key-presses that can record images on the PC

If you've recorded images/video in standalone mode, when you connect to the PC via link cable, enable the USB popup in the notification window and the files will be in My Computer/This PC Quest > oculus > video shots/video

Hi. Thank you.

Yes, pressing the 'usual buttons' when connected via a Link cable doesn't work; as I say, I have to start recording before I enable Link, which is far from Ideal. Is there no other way? I am not using Steam VR.

I never get an 'Enable USB' popup and have never managed to find out how to get it to appear (apart from via an app on my mobile??) or any such option in the Settings menus. So my Quest never shows up in my PC.

What do I need to do?

Are you using a USB-C data cable as a USB-C cable without data will not connect to the headset?

You could try a factory reset, as when you first get asked about USB access in the headset, it's all too easy to click no and don't as again. A factory reset may open this option up for you.

An alternative is to get sidequest and create a developer account which can enable you to transfer files across from the headset to the PC. There are also many free and alternative app on the sidequest site.

Thank you very much for the replies. I already have Sidequest (on my phone) and a developer account, so I will have a look into how the transfer is done (no luck so far).

Unfortunately, still no nearer to seeing how to record a video (or even take a screenshot) when I am connected to my PC (and successfully running X-Plane in VR) with a link cable.

Hi @martinlest 🙂

I can't help you with your video, but with the screenshot.
Press your Meta button once to bring up the pc link menu.
When you hover your controller over the clock on the right, a menu will appear.
Click "take screenshot".... now you have 5 seconds to close the menu and make your shot.

I know, it's not a fast way to take a screenshot.😂

Hey there, @martinlest

We would love to help resolve this issue for you.

On a Meta Quest device you can record a video by pressing the Meta Button on your right touch controller to pull up your universal menu. Then select Camera then select Record video.

Or, if your PC has a window with a view of the game you could use a screen recording software on your PC to record.

If the issue is persisting however, we would like to have a more in depth investigation, and we would like for you to send us a private message.
