Huge stutter problems with my MSI Z370 Gaming 5 motherboard

Just recently got this motherboard along with the 8700K and 32gb of DDR4 RAM, 1080TI.. I always get this horrible head tracking stuttering + ghosting when playing games.. Tested DCS, PC2 and ETS2 so far.. I VERY strongly suspect it's the USB 3 ports that I am using.. But it fails on all of them.. Oculus Home reports that I have good tracking, but the reality is different. My OS is clean and i do not have any additional software installed.. Tried several different nVidia drivers also, all the same problem..

Is the Z370 known for having trouble? What can I do to fix this? Is there any spesific USB-drivers I can install for my motherboard?

Try disabling any GPU monitor apps you have installed, like MSI AfterBurner, EVGA Precision, etc.

Hey. I installed updated chipset drivers and used DDU to completely remove 388.13 driver and reverted to 388.00. Now it's working great again!

Hey keem85. Did your stutter look like this: https://forums.oculus.com/community/discussion/59206/image-jumping
or was it somehow different? I have the latest chipset drivers available and right now also have 388.13 drivers. I will try first to upgrade to yesterday released 388.31 drivers and if this also doesn't give better result then I try to revert back to 388.0 and see if I get also lucky like you did. 🙂

I had the stuttering problem too.  I tried everything and it was the driver.  Seems the last two were like that.  I went all the way back to 385.28 because I had it downloaded and then it worked fine.  I'm going to try the 388.00.  I don't think Nvidia worries too much about us Rift owners.

Yeah. 388.00 was buggy also. Had to go back to 385.28 for the stuttering to disappear.

I've had no end of stuttering issues with the latest Nvidia drivers on my GTX1080. I've been rolling back to 388.00 too. Smooth as butter on 388.00.

Weirdly for me 388.00 was buggy still. Had to go even more back. First went to 385.28 which was OK. Later tried also 387.92 which seemed to be also OK but then started to bug out also... 😞

Go to this link at the bottom to bring you to this magical forum post.  Look at the comment from aisepos! His suggestion actually fixed everything. Oculus has never suggested this but now they will. This man is a genius and he actually figured out why I was having my problems... all 6 months of them.  I can’t guarantee it’s a cure all but I hope this helps you too and give him a shout if you see him. He is a God!!!!

Thanks to everyone in their suggestions if they are reading this. I really appreciate all the help and working together to figure out these things for the community.

See you in the Rift!
