I Beg You, Save Your Money. DON'T Get The Quest 3

I'm begging you, save your money and get the Apple Vision Pro. Or get a kids' toy viewfinder toy. Or just close your eyes and use your imagination. Whatever you do, don't burn $500 on this piece of garbage.

I was gifted a Meta Quest 3 in mid-September this year. Within 3 weeks, I turned it on and it wouldn't connect to any WiFi connections (despite all my other devices still successfully connecting). And of course, because 90% of its functions need an internet connection, the device was little more than a pair of grainy/pixelated eyeglasses. I reached out to Meta support, and after a half-hour wasted there, I had to do a factory reset (thereby losing progress/records on most of my apps, which also required reinstalling). They gave me a $20 Meta Horizons Store credit for my trouble. Goody.

Cut to almost exactly a month after that, and here I am again. Today I turned on my headset and would only see a black screen after the Meta logo (though I'd stiill hear sounds). I tried Rebooting, Hard Rebooting, Cold Rebooting, and spent 3 hours chatting with Meta Support because I didn't want to have to factory-reset again. Why 3 hours? Because I'm convinced Meta uses bots (or maybe just houseflies) to staff their support centers. The number of times they proposed the same "solutions" after we'd already established they didn't/couldn't work was enough to make me pull out my hair. Also, over the course of those 3 hours, I spoke to four separate staffers (or bot profiles). So after slogging through explaining / working through the issues with one, I'd suddenly read "Hi there, my name's Emma/Zoro/Travis/Michael, how can I help you?" and I'd be expected to walk them through the whole history again. At the last one, I quit.

Oh but guess what? I eventually did a factory reset, and it still doesn't work. The chefs-kiss moment? Another $20 Meta Horizons Store credit. On a device they know doesn't work.

So once again, I'm begging you not to get suckered into the Kafkaesque nightmare I just walked away from. Sadly, I'd just bought my nephew a Meta Quest 3S before this ordeal began. Don't be like me -- save your money (or just give it away), but don't burn it on one of these glorified desk ornaments.
