Hello, today as usual, my Airlink suddenly stopped working for no (good) reason, and I spent (LOST) my morning trying to get it to work.
After a (usual) check of all my connections (PC connected via Ethernet, only Quest via wireless with good signal/bandwidth), software check (drivers, meta app, firewall settings, etc.), a few reboots, and also checked the solutions found on the web, but NEVER RESET TO FACTORY SETTINGS because it is not a VIABLE (and real) solution in production... What I found is that when you disable Airlink, AND go to settings, DISABLE QUESTLINK in the Questlink settings page, AND shut down the Quest... The next time you boot, you now re-enable the questlink on the settings page, and re-enable Airlink... This triggers something that will force you to RE-PAIR the computer (instead of just endlessly trying to connect to your already paired (but out of sync) computer without success), and it works instantly after that!
As a software developer, I really think that YOU (meta) have a problem with the pairing system 🙂
To be clear: when a computer is already paired, sometimes the application will not sync anymore with the profile saved in the quest for no reason.
And as proof, generally, when it's the case, if users have another solution on hand, like virtual desktop... Magically that work without touching anything else... (We can mostly admit that those solutions are way more stable than yours)
So,... please fix it!
This issue has been going on for too long (I think since the beginning of air-link on my Quest1).
=> You are wasting your time and your users' time by simply trying to give them a classic procedure to help them (because yes, user mishandling is common with software and high technology), hoping that magically one of your steps will unblock them... (without having a clear idea of the cause and what they should do... (sorry but factory reset should not be an all-way-to-go solution just because your target users are mainly gamers...)) but if you recognize the problem, everyone will benefit from this solution if you invest a little of your time and the concerned staff on it... 🙂
Please, don't think I'm too harsh, but rather confident.
Thanks for reading! 😉
Edit: The reboot is optional, but can help if the airlink is too unstable when connected (but in this case it's generally best to also shutdown the computer, which is quickly annoying)
