In Horizon Workrooms, how do I use my keyboard and mouse remotely?

I love working in Horizon workrooms.  However, I can only seem to do so when my keyboard and mouse are within bluetooth range of my PC.  This means I cannot work remotely even though when I use Workrooms remotely I can see my PC's screens fine.  I've paired my keyboard and mouse to my Quest 3 headset, but it does not seem to pass that through to the remote desktop.  Am I missing something?

Hey there, @Ninjatoes84. Thanks for reaching out with that great question. We know how important it is to be able to use the correct peripherals with the proper settings, and we would be happy to provide some information for you.

You can check out our Meta Quest release notes to see recent changes and updates to the Meta Quest software. We did  have some improvements when connecting with keyboards. However, Tracked keyboards for Meta Quest have not been removed for either Bluetooth or for use with Remote Display.

For issues with your keyboards, please make sure it is a supported keyboard, and then remove the keyboard from the headset, restart your headset, and reconnect the keyboard to ensure things are properly connected after updating your headset. Please let us know if you have any further questions or issues after disconnecting and reconnecting your keyboard, and we would be happy to look into this further.

Hey there, @sj3vans! Using a keyboard in Horizon Workrooms can really up your VR game, so we wanted to pop in to share those instructions for you! It's important to first keep in mind that Remote Desktop is an application that only mirrors the PC monitor, so the mouse and keyboard would still need to be connected to the PC. To enable your keyboard, you can use the steps listed here and below:

  1. From the Workrooms VR app, select the Settings tab of your desk menu.
  2. Select Desk, then select Tracked Keyboard.
  3. Select your keyboard from the list.
  4. If your keyboard is supported, it will appear in VR after you select it from the list. For best results, make sure there is enough light in the room you’re in so that your headset can detect your keyboard.

@sj3vans  Unfortunately in Workrooms, Remote Desktop and Remote Display there's no way to use the Keyboard and Mouse connected to the headset to control the remotely connected computer -- so you are right, you need to be within Bluetooth range to your computer at the moment to use your keyboard and mouse with Workrooms.

The only option right now to support this would probably be to connect remotely to your desktop via the browser and use the keyboard/mouse connected to the headset to use the desktop but that's not ideal for sure.

In the Horizon Workrooms Community this has been a frequent request as well, I hope we'll see this type of support in the near future but so far we haven't heard of any workarounds yet that would support this.

Hey guys, I can't seem to find the tracked keyboard settings anymore. All I have in the settings tab is Account avatar and desk. Has the virtual keyboard function been removed?

Thanks for you response. However I'm still having troublele. The keyboard I'm using is an apple magic keyboard with Touch ID. It worked previously. I just can't seem to see any settings to add or remove a keyboard. All the settings I have are what I described in my original post. Just Account, avatar and desk. They are my only settings visible so I can't even remove the keyboard if I wanted to.  Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks for getting back to us. With the setting not being available to add or remove the keyboard could you provide a screenshot of what is being seen within the settings available. This can help in our investigation further into why it may not be showing. We look forward to hearing back, and have a great day!

I am having the exact same issue, writing right now from Workrooms and the settings for keyboard are not there!

Hey there, @Ali_alaqaby! We understand wanting to have the option to change the options available. If this should not show within Horizon Workrooms we would recommend submitting a report through the Workrooms app on the headset or from the Workrooms web app.

To provide feedback for Workrooms from your headset:

  1. From the Workrooms app, press / on your right Touch controller to pull up your universal menu.
  2. Hover over the clock on the left side of the universal menu. When Quick Settings appears, select it to open the Quick Settings panel.
  3. Select Report problem.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to submit your report.

To provide feedback for Workrooms from the Workrooms web app:

  1. From the Workrooms web app, click on your name in the bottom left corner.
  2. Click Help & Support, then click Give Feedback or Report a Problem.

We appreciate your time, and have a great day!
