Is This Really That Difficult?

Meta Community,  I really need your help.  For going on a year now,  I have been trying to get someone, anyone,
over at Meta to understand that there is a VAST difference between Meta Link and a simple 'device connection' to a computer's USB port.  Every device ever created be it a cell phone, MP3 Player, tablet and even our Quest 2 headsets has the ability to connect to a computer's USB port so it can be read by the computer and files can be transferred back and forth. This is a standard and primary function of any device.

I don't know how many of you have used this standard feature but I used it every single week.  I have movies I
like to watch in Big Screen,  I have music I like to listen to (and watch) in my music visualizer, there is a list a mile long of reasons to have this functionality.

If you've used a USB cable to connect your Quest 2 headset to a computer, even once,  you have seen that a
prompt will appear in your headset asking for permission to allow the computer to read the files.  The prompt
has 3 choices: Yes,  No and the third choices is: No and don't prompt again. The puzzling thing about the 3rd
choice is, if you select it, either by choice or accident, you lose the functionality of the USB connection
completely because some genius forgot to add a way to turn it back on once it was turned off....or so I thought.

After about 6 months of turning over every stone I could find and after many headache inducing discussions with Meta support attempting to explain that I don't need Meta Link to connect to a computer (and Meta Link wouldn't work for me anyway because my computer is too old to meet any system requirements for Link,)  I found an old Oculus support page claiming that if you sign up to become a developer, that the toggle to turn the USB prompt back on would be found under the developer category (which will appear under the system settings category after a reset of the headset.)  And after I signed up and restarted my headset, sure enough, there was now a "developer' category located in my system settings and...the toggle to turn back on the USB prompt was, in fact, right there! I was a little angry that I lost a half a year and couldn't convince a single meta support member I knew what I was talking about but overjoyed that I got my connectivity back! I'd never run into that problem again even if meta support doesn't understand the difference between Meta Link and a USB connection...or so I thought.

2 nights ago, after a 3 month hiatus from moving files back and forth, I attempted to use my USB connection again. The prompt did not appear.  I thought to myself, 'no worries...I must've accidently chosen option 3 again'
(my source of nightmare fuel) and I will just go turn it back on. But guess what??? The toggle to turn back on
the USB prompt WAS REPLACED with a toggle to "automatically connect to Meta Link" when a computer running the link software is attached.  Are you kidding me??? Is this really THAT difficult to understand??? Link requires a computer with a Windows 10 or higher OS and a software package I don't need, don't want and will not work on my Windows 8 computer! A USB connection works with any computer, running any version of Windows from 7 to 11! No software needed!  What am I missing guys???  What am I not explaining to meta support?  If any of you have run into a similar struggle, please chime in.  I want this simple functionality added back! It can't be replaced by Meta Link!  And my patience is really starting to wear thin....I've been waiting for VR since the 80's. Now that it is here, to hit this wall is a real drag...Please help.

Hey there @drogue665! Being able to effortlessly connect your headset to your PC for standard device connection, has been a favorite feature of ours for a long time. We've recently made some changes to how it functions for our customers, but it's certainly not our intent to make it difficult for anyone. We really do appreciate all the work you've done on your own, so allow us to help you even further.

With version 60, while there is indeed the "Auto Connect to Quest Link" option you've described, at the top of the Developer options is another new feature. MTP Notification, when toggled on, allows you to connect your headset via USB to the PC, just as before. When plugged in, a notification will pop up for you to click, simply to allow it to connect-one click, and you're in! We've removed the other options to select (or accidentally mis-click). To disallow, simply toggle the feature off.

If you have any other concerns, please don't hesitate to let us know. We hope this was helpful information!

Download SideQuest https://sidequestvr.com/setup-howto

make sure you scroll down and download the Advanced version (not the easy version).

connect your quest and in the headset select always allow USB debugging.

now in the SideQuest app you can access the files on the quest
