Issue with graphic card compatibility with Oculus software

Mr.Abarth
Protege

I have a brand new high end Dell XPS laptop with a RTX 4070 graphics card. The Oculus software however gives a message that my graphics card is not compatible with the Rift S software.

How do I fix this. I know my graphics card is more than capable. I have installed all the new drivers but still no luck.

I do see that my laptop has 2 GPU's. Could this be the problem?

1. Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics

2. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 laptop GPU

I followed the steps and no luck. It helped to do setup all over again instead of being stuck on that one page with the compatibility error.

But after setting up, still the same compatibility error occured.

How about you guys make an option in the software to be able to ignore the error? What I mean is... my laptop is more than capable but the software stops me from using it..

I'm having the same issue with a Dell XPS 17 with RTX34070 (dual GPU). The Meta Live Link says my graphics card is not compatible and I'm unable to launch any games, even though I'm able to enter the Oculus Home.

I understood that because of the integrated graphics card our systems are not supported at this point.

The weird thing is that I also have an Alienware laptop with an integrated graphics card and that laptop works with the oculus.

I think it's probably as simple as the Oculus app wrongly detecting the hardware on this particular laptop, and it might be just an easy fix on their side. I've found several posts about the same problem with the same XPS laptops here and on Reddit so hopefully they are aware of the issue. The laptop otherwise works fine if the games are launched manually by directly opening the corresponding exe. The only other problem is that viewing the Desktop in the Oculus (Meta?) Home doesn't work and I just get a black window, which is probably related to the same detection problem. Probably Virtual Desktop (launched directly) will work, but I haven't tested it.

It's a shame... moths later and this still doesn't work. Meta should FIX this software bug... because it's a bug. Just don't check my system with your software... it will work! Or make a simple button "we think your graphics card is not compatible, but if you want to try anyways click here and proceed".... How hard can it be. Instead you let your customers down.

Hey again, @Mr.Abarth. We know PC VR is very important for VR enthusiasts of all kinds. We do have some further information we would like to provide that may help you out.

First, we wanted to mention that laptops are known to have issues and/or be incompatible for many reasons, usually due to the previously mentioned iGPU causing issues. There are also issues due to the GPU hardware itself being different between a laptop and desktop versions, and the drivers not always being the exact same. Significant differences or changes to drivers can easily make the otherwise supported GPU not recognized as a supported one. This is due to changes made by the GPU company and is outside of our control.

Typically, you can ignore the "GPU unsupported" banner if VR is still working despite the message, but it seems you are unable to launch VR at all. You can take a look at the compatibility file to see exact details on what products, versions, etc, are tested and supported by the Meta Quest Link PC VR application by reviewing the "Compatibility.json" file located in your "AppData > Local > Oculus" file location. AppData is hidden by default and can be opened by using Winkey+R and running "%appdata%" and backtracking once using the navigation bar at the top from the "Roaming" location that is opened.
We do not recommend changing the compatibility file as changes to this file will not change if a GPU and its drivers are supported or not, but can help provide context on what is causing the banner to appear.

If you would like to send us a direct message from our Profile Page, we would be happy to see if we can help by reviewing the Meta Quest Link application logs to provide more information on what is happening, and how to resolve them.

Hey @Mr.Abarth! I just wanted to jump in here in order to try and clear some things up.

After doing a bit of research, I did find a reddit thread that mentions some slight differences between wattage power of GPU's and their performance, with users suggesting to make sure your laptop provides at least 100W for optimal performance.

Within that reddit thread, one of the users also mentioned an article from notebookcheck that provides gaming benchmark values for different laptop GPU wattages.

When digging a bit further, it seems like the 4070 Dell XPS only gets about 60W which could be the main factor in holding back its performance. This would result in the card not being read properly by the Link software, ending in the error message provided.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to voice them out and I'll try to address them as best I can!
