Just ordered the CV1 - is the compatability report correct?

Anonymous
Not applicable
Hi guys,

i owned the DK1 and DK2, which ran great.

I've just ordered the CV1 and was browsing around the website, i saw there was a compatability checker and according to it, my CPU doesn't meet the requirements but i feel it may be inccorect as i'm sure the i7 outperforms the i5 in most ways?

X Processor

Your Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600K CPU @ 3.40GHz processor
doesn't meet our recommended specification, which is an Intel i5-4590
equivalent or greater. Learn more.

+ Graphics Card

You have an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970, which meets or exceeds our recommended system specification.

+ Memory

You have 8 GB of RAM, which meets or exceeds our recommended system specification.

+ Operating System

You're running Windows 10 64-bit, which meets or exceeds our recommended system specification.

+ USB

You have USB 3.0 ports, which meets or exceeds our recommended system specification.

Is it true? will it not handle the CV1?

Any advice would be helpful.

My motherboard is faily old now - it's the Asus P67 Sabertooth Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard ** B3 REVISION

Thanks,
NC

Your CPU will be fine. It's the same situation as with my 3770k. Basically the compatibility checker excludes anything pre haswell (so pre 4xxx) even if the CPU in question is OP like mine. Or yours. You will have a permanent annoying blue banner in Oculus home reminding you it doesn't like your CPU, but that's about it.

Edit: For extra assurance, check this comparison: https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare.php?cmp[]=2234&cmp[]=868

Your CPU beats the minimum overall, but loses by a wee bit in single thread. Still, it's plenty powerful. You have nothing to worry about.

My unofficial opinion is you'll be fine, Your single core performance is better than my Xeon X5670 and that runs everything fine, Project cars I have to turn settings down but it's still very immersive.

You also have a K series chip so get that bad boy over clocked you should be good for at least 4.4Ghz

Yeah, SB OCs quite well. That chip in particular is known to be a pretty good overclocker I think. But even at stock, it's plenty.

The problem with the Oculus recommendation is that it's just a table lookup. If your CPU is not in the list, you get the "won't meet spec."

The better way to do this is to actually run a test to see how a system performs.

Use the SteamVR Performance test, as it does exactly that.  If you can pass that test, you'll have a good experience.

As the single thread performance is lessor the i5-4590 performance is guaranteed.

A simple way round this would be to overclock, this would raise your stp.

Ie my i5-3570k at 4.5ghz has better stp so will be more than fine.
