Known Issue - Cannot pair Replacement Quest Headset with the Oculus App

DominatorVIP

Hello all,

I recently got a brand new Oculus Quest via RMA, and I'm in the process of updating it. However, I'm having some issues trying to pair the new Headset with the app. I have the Oculus Quest 1 (or the OG quest).

When I try to setup the headset inside the Oculus app, I get through the part asking me to plug in the Quest to power, turn it on, etc. After I put in the pairing code found inside the Quest (sometimes it automatically finds the pairing code, sometimes it doesn't, don't know why), it says "pairing to headset". After a minute or two it spits out an error saying it cannot connect to the headset. I've tried all the following troubleshooting:

  • Factory Resetting the headset (even though it's brand new :/)
  • Uninstalling/Reinstalling the Oculus app
  • Trying the setup on multiple different devices
  • Turning bluetooth & location off and on again, along with checking the app has proper permissions to use them on each of the devices I tried it on
  • Restarting the headset & devices

I don't know what's causing this. Is anyone else having this issue, and if so, is there any potential fixes for it? I already opened a ticket with Oculus Support and all I got as a response is "our developers are aware of the issue are are currently working on it" which could mean a lot or absolutely nothing judging by how you look at it. It looks like a LOT of other people are having this issue, so hopefully they fix whatever's causing it soon.

Cheers,

~ Dom

(EDIT: I posted a fix in the replies which appears to have fixed the issue for most. If it helped you at all, and you'd be so inclined, feel free to use my referral code, as when you (finally) activate your headset, we'll both get $30 of credit to use on whatever you want: https://www.oculus.com/referrals/link/DominatorVIP/)

Good news. Following other suggestions, I paired my Quest 2 with a Win10 laptop using the Meta Quest Developer Hub app. You have to register as a developer to download, it's instant and don't worry there's no coding test. It's free, versions for Mac or PC. It works via bluetooth so you need to have that enabled. Install it, log in with your Meta account and add device. it begins the pairing, then you get prompted to complete setup in the headset, and it WORKS. My game library is there, I'm in. It still won't connect to my phone. For what it's worth, it auto-updated to firmware v46.

Credit where credit is due! Thanks @NeO_Anderson2005 for the pro tip! His comments and better instructions:

Update: I uninstalled and installed the Developer Hub app, and tried again. This time it asked to verify my account with a credit card... Once I did that, I was able to get through the pairing screen in the Developer Hub app.

So this could be the problem ? Check if your accounts are verified, guys.

Meta are really hunger for user data, they don't care about anything. Worst big tech company.

I tried installing the HUB but is still trying to pair with no success. 😞

An update was just now made to the mobile app, a fix for this pairing problem. Still says v181.1, worth a try.

See what I said above. To be able to use the Developer Hub, you need to enable developer mode, and to have a developer account, you need to verify with a credit card. I did that a year ago and forgot about it, and had to verify again because of "user data" reasons.

You will still need a pc with bluetooth connection. When you install the hub app, in the devices tab, it will ask you to do few things to setup the device, for me it was verifying my account again, but the first time I did not get this warning.

Installing old firmwares did not worked for me and was just a waste of time. But I really appreciate the community help in trying to solve the problem that Meta has created.

Now that it's working again, I think I will sell the headset before it happens again. I will never buy anything from this company again and will convice anyone to stay away from Meta.

On my end I am trying to enable dev mode my iOS app. The app doesn't pair so I can't do that. I created a new account and made the whole process again. Now, is asking me for the unlock pattern and it doesn't work. I have repeated the pattern over and over and still can't pair it with my phone. I tried doing so with the DevHub but it doesn't work either.

Hi, did you change ADB location?

I am stuck again, here is the photo where:

I change to the original charging cable (not the one for linking and playing) and went one step above, but still asking for upgrading firmware, same for you?

Still need help?
