Known Issue: Headset Says Memory Full, but it is not

Hi, my Oculus Quest 2 headset is saying low memory, but I have heaps of memory. It is making it so I can not play my game. What is causing this problem or does anyone have any solutions.

I’ve been having similar problems with my Quest and I’ve check my storage and still have over 80GBs of space remaining. I only play Into the Radius and it’s not allowing me to play it due to this error.

This happened to me during VR chat. It Kept closing the app due to low Memory Even though I had a lot of memory left. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling it. I Tried clearing space just In case but it still didn't work.

Using Unity and this Passthrough Tutorial  on my Quest Pro (actually 2 of them I tested) I ran into this issue today and received this error "not enough memory to run passthrough oculus". I rebooted, and did a factory reset on one device and it happened again. I used the 3D (URP) Core project and followed the steps including importing the OculusIntegration_v55.0.unitypackage (newest) and the steps are mostly exact, however this step has language changed in the inspector:

  1. On the Hierarchy tab, expand OVRCameraRig > TrackingSpace > CenterEyeAnchor, and then on the Inspector tab, do the following:
    1. From the Clear Flags list, select Solid Color.
    2. Change the Background color to black and the alpha value to 0. You can also set the (R,G,B,A) values to (0, 0, 0, 0).

It's not called "Flags" from what I can tell. This basic session only contains one sphere 3D object and I could see it on an initial build and run, but subsequent builds result in the memory issue.  Please advise on where I might be off, or if this is a bug.

* Seems I can't link the instructions with this error listed to post in the forum: "Your post has been changed because invalid HTML was found in the message body. The invalid HTML has been removed. Please review the message and submit the message when you are satisfied." 😑

I have been recently crashing a lot when I play games, it would say low memory (something among those line(kinda forgot what it said)), is there any way to fix the low memory problem because I have no videos/pictures on my device and got plenty of storage(104 GB free of 128 GB).

I also can no longer connect through airlink with my pc(pc and oculus is both up to date and the pc have the specs to run airlink) any help to mainly solve then low memory problem for the oculus quest 2?

Hiya hiya @Moloka1, we were skipping on by and noticed you are in need of assistance with your headset and Air Link. Being able to play in VR and PCVR smoothly without any worries of crashing or connectivity issues, is the experience we want to bring to you! We want to help you all that we can on this matter.

For the headset, can you please review the following:

  • Is the crashing and low memory issue with particular games, or with a majority of them?
  • Hard reboot the headset.
    1. Turn off your headset completely.
    2. Hold the power and volume (-) button on your headset down simultaneously until the boot screen loads on your headset.
    3. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Boot Device and press the power button.
    4. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Yes and press the power button.
  • Are you comfortable with a Factory Reset to address this issue?
  • What other troubleshooting have you done yourself?

As for the Air link issue:

  • Have you updated your GPU?
  • Do you have issues when using the Link Cable as well?
  • Do you have anything running in the background or any other application open?
  • Please disable any of the following:
    • VPN
    • Firewall
    • Antivirus
    • Network/Data/Packet Manager.
  • Are you using the dedicated or integrated graphics card?
  • Is your performance settings set to the highest/best option available?
  • Is your computer connected via Wi-Fi 5GHz or an ethernet cable?
  • Have you tried any troubleshooting yourself to try and resolved the issue?
  • Can you try to repair the PC app?

We hope to hear from you soon!

Im having the same isue in VRCHAT. I can temporarily rectify it by going into the app settings.. debug.. then clear both caches.. then restart the app. But this only lasts for maybe the next 5 -6 world visits...then im sent back Toby home world with a popup message saying my headset memory is too low.. the message dissapears before i can take a picture of it. this happening to a few other friends in this app.

Hey @Jade8568, Thanks for coming on over to our forums. We appreciate you doing some troubleshooting on your end. We see that there is a little problem within your game that is related to your memory, We do have some information that might help you get around the situation. Memory and storage are two different things, which is why clearing caches helps when this happens. The easiest way to control this type of problem is to display fewer avatars or go to smaller worlds. This might not fix everything but its definetly something to think about.
