Laptop Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 GPU lagging PCVR

Emi.Cerezo
Honored Guest

I have an MSI gamer laptop with i7 12° gen, 32gb ram ddr5 and a Nvidia RTX 4060 that works perfectly with every game but with my Oculus 3 in PCVR, is lagging as hell. Better the game worst the quality. I've already tried everything (cable USB 3.0, Airlink, SteamVR, ....) Oculus app is still saying the message "your computer doesn't meet requirements" of course I have exceeded the recommended requirements.

There are a lot of threads in Reddit also in this community with the same issue but I don't see any answer from your side.

Hi @Emi.Cerezo. We understand how this may have dampened your experience in the world of virtual reality, and we would be more than happy to assist you with this lagging issue. We want to start by sending you steps for manually assigning that GPU. You can use Windows to manually assign which GPU is used by this specific process. To do so, we ask that you:

  • Close the Oculus Desktop software.
  • Open Windows Settings > System > Display > Graphics Settings.
  • Select Classic App from the drop-down menu and click Browse
  • Select the OculusClient.exe
  • (By default, this will be installed at C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-client\OculusClient.exe.)
  • Click Options > High Performance > Save
  • Ensure the "High Performance" option has your dedicated graphics at the top of this menu.

After you have given this a go, let us know so we can proceed accordingly. Again, we appreciate you reaching out and look forward to getting you back in the game.

Hello, as you can see in the attachments that was already done.Client_Oculus.png

Hello @Emi.Cerezo! Thank you for sending us this attachment. This helps us see what you have already done. The steps below will help us understand the issue you are having with your PCVR lagging. We want to make sure that you also have the most updated version of Nvidia. The steps bellow will allow you to set a priority in order to get high performance.

You can manually set the process priority to see if this will automatically assign the process to high performance.

  1. Open Task Manager
  2. Go to the Details tab
  3. Find OVRServer_x64.exe
  4. Right click on it and select Set Priority
  5. Set this priority to High
  6. Repeat steps 4 - 6 for VirtualDesktop.streamer.exe

Also, please make sure to disable your dedicated graphics card as well so we can be sure only the integrated card is being used.

Hello,

I was able to change Priority but only for OVRServer_x64.exe because I don't have VirtualDesktop.streamer.exe.

I tried after this change and it worked well for 3 minutes and then again the lagging, errors when processing graphics, not loading some parts, terrible. I closed the game and tried to open a different one but did not even work properly 1 min.

We appreciate the update. We will now continue with a clean reinstall. It works as a kind of "factory reset" for the desktop because the standard uninstaller might not be able to remove a file that causes troubles.

Please follow the steps below:

  1. Disconnect the Rift/Link cable from the computer
  2. Disconnect your computer from the internet
  3. Backup any necessary content. You can find steps on how to do so by clicking here.
  4. Reboot into Safe Mode. You can find steps on how to do so by clicking here.
  5. Uninstall the Oculus PC app using the Control Panel. You can find steps on how to do so by clicking here.
  6. Delete all Oculus folders from the following folder:C:\Program Files
  7. Remove any Oculus folders from the following locations:
    1. C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData
    2. C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Local
    3. C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\LocalLow
    4. C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Roaming
    5. C:\OculusSetup-DownloadCache
  8. Restart your computer in normal mode
  9. Reconnect your computer to the internet
  10. Install the Oculus PC app again using the setup tool from our website here
  11. Reconnect the Rift/Link cable and re-test the headset

Please let us know if this does it for you. If you are still experiencing lag, don't hesitate to reach out to us again so we can look into the other options we have available for you. We can't wait to hear back from you soon!

Hello @Emi.Cerezo! Just checking in to see if the troubleshooting steps helped? Our goal is to get you back into the world of VR, so please let us know if there anything we can do!

Hello, I've completed all the required steps without luck.

When I connected for first time Meta quest link there is no option to select Meta Quest 3, so I've selected Meta Quest 2 (is that correct?).

The truth is that I am not very happy with all this, is there any guarantee to return the product?

Hey @Emi.Cerezo! Thank you so much for your response! Based on the troubleshooting we've already done, it appears that the PCVR link is having trouble due to the GPU being integrated instead of a stand alone card. We understand that the RTX 4060 is a supported GPU, however integrated GPUs can sometimes cause issues with PCVR and are generally not recommended for ideal PCVR gaming. We'd like be able to rule out headset malfunction, would you be able to test PCVR link on another computer?

We know it's not the news you wanted to hear but we wanted to provide realistic expectations when it comes to PCVR requirements. Please let us know if you were able to test the PCVR feature on another device.

In the meantime, if you have any other questions or concerns then please let us know. Looking forward to your response!
