Left Oculus Controller Drift

ReptusSanctus
Level 2

Hello,

I've had my Quest 2 for less than a year (bought it in March 2022) and I'm running into severe controller drift on my left Touch Controller. Basically, when I apply *any* movement to the joystick it starts glitching directionally hard to the right (even with deadzone at 100%). I input the serial number into the "eligible for replacement" dealy and it came up as being eligible for replacement but here's the strange thing that concerns me: When I have my Quest 2 plugged into my PC the app doesn't show the controllers (either of them) to be on. nor does it show the serial number. I had to remove the battery to look for that information. My question here is two-fold, 1) can I get a replacement for the problematic controller? and 2) with the issue with the app showing both controllers as off even when confirmed to be on should I be seeking a replacement for the right controller at the same time or is that issue a known bug/glitch? I'm just concerned and don't want to waste anyone's time.

I have a Meta Quest 2 case (the grey one) that I keep the controllers in whenever I am not using them. The lid remains shut/closed when not in use.

I've got video of this happening synced to my Meta account but I can't seem to view it as it shows a WiFi signal icon with an exclamation point through it. I will attempt to capture using casting instead.

UPDATE: I did get the video to work. Additionally, when I went to go record the video, I discovered another issue with the left controller; that the thumb rest isn't registering when my thumb is on it. This is an additional issue and I can't seem to report both issues in the "eligible for replacement/enter serial number" thing so I don't know what to do here.

Since you mentioned connecting the quest to your pc, you might want to try my Oculus Monitor program: https://forums.oculusvr.com/t5/VR-Experiences/Oculus-Monitor-v0-2-2-27-Mar-20/td-p/708659

It shows all current values of the controllers (the capacitive sensors, raw thumbstick and triggers, buttons, etc). It can make it clearer what's going on or what features are faulty.

It works with Quests, as long as they are on Link or Airlink (since its a PC app).

TBH I don't want to download any software that isn't official from Meta because the PC I use I also use for work and viruses exist (not saying that I think it has any just can't risk the possibility). I have recorded it happening, however. Thank you for the offer, however. I do appreciate it.

No problem, understandable.

Hey there, @ReptusSanctus!

We see you're having some controller troubles. We've been there and we can't have this get in the way of your VR adventures. Let's see what we can do to help you out. When you're ready attempt the following steps:

  • Remove the battery for at least 30 seconds.
  • Clean the controller with a microfiber cloth.
  • Unpair and then repair the controller.
  • Take some canned air and gently spray around the joystick.

As well, try altering the Deadzone of the controller. In order to alter the Deadzones, perform the following on the headset:

  1. Go into settings
  2. Go to controller settings
  3. Under Joystick Deadzone and Range, select the joystick that is having the issue
  4. Be sure to follow the on screen instructions to help guide you through the next steps.

If after the above has been performed and you still experience some controller troubles, no need to worry! Let's have you get in contact with one of our specialists here: https://metaque.st/Support.

Thank you so much for the quick response! I will perform the above steps and update you as soon as I have. Might be a little while, I appear to be out of canned air at the moment.

I will try out altering deadzone again after the first set of steps are completed. I've already tried that as it is (all the way to 100%) and still got right drift

I followed all the steps in order several times. I even put the deadzone to 100%. It is still drifting hard right so bad that at 100% deadzone it prevents me from moving left because it still kicks full right. I also changed which batteries I was using just in case bad battery was a cause and it didn't help to fix it.

So when I initially checked the eligibility via serial number it said it was covered and now after I've logged in to Facebook it doesn't? Why? It was supposed to have a 1 year warranty. I bought the system in March 2022 from Best Buy. When I plug in the serial number it says it's eligible but that it isn't associated with my account. Could this have something to do with the serial not showing up in the PC app "devices" menu?

Hello there, @ReptusSanctus. Thanks for reaching out to us. We understand that you're inquiring about your warranty. We'd love to clarify this for you. We invite you to PM us so that we can look into this further.
