Link Crashes every 10 minutes

AWhyWolf

I have a Quest 2. When connecting it to the PC via Link cable it works perfectly fine for about 10 minutes and then it crashes. When it crashes there are some artifacts on the Quest, kind of like a line that glitches over the screen and the rest of the images are still. The software (game and rift software) on PC runs perfectly fine without it crashing, indicating that its not an issue on the game itself.

On the quest I then press the quest button and the normal quest (home screen - non PC rift) panel opens up. When I select the button to go back to the Link app, I am greeted with an indefinite three dots. In order to get back into Link, I need to restart the headset, sometimes it works when I unplug the cable and plug it in again, but I need to re-initialise the Rift app on the quest.

Technical stuff:

I am running this on a PC.

  • AMD Rizen 5 3600X
  • 32GB of ram
  • Use to run it on a Nvidia 1070 (exact same issue), upgraded to a 4070 because I suspected it was my GPU
  • MSI Motherboard

Tried everything. Nothing works. Here is a list of things I tried:

  • Swapped USB ports (tried every single one on my pc)
  • Updated all drivers
  • Tried a new cable (bought a new cable to try and sort this out)
  • Updated all software
  • Turned off USB power management
  • Turned off other power management - everything is now turned on all the time
  • Turned off antivirus software
  • Upgraded my graphics card
  • Got 2 new cables and tried  / tested everything with them
  • Got a new USB card (USB 3.2) to see if that will work
  • Repaired the Rift software
  • Sent logs to Meta Support - got a list of things to do that I sent them.
  • Opted out of the "public test channel"
  • Messed around with graphics preferences (tried all Hz)

Games I tried:

  • VRChat
  • Gorn
  • Half-life Alex

This happens both when simply using Rift (no third party software), and when using SteamVR.

My theory now is that it is an issue on the Quest 2 itself and that the link app just crashes after a few minutes. I think there is something wrong on my unit, but I have no way to validate or test this. Oculus support has not been helpful as they immidiately jumped to "your graphics card is not supported"??? OK I had a 1070 with the same issue. Really frustrating.

I have submitted multiple bug reports on the quest when this happens - no interaction from the meta team for these.

Question here is if anyone managed to get this issue resolved without replacing their Quest? is there a way for me to send in my unit to be checked (I am in a third world country)?

Yes, it's probably an update issue. I did everything, even formatted my computer, changed the cable and the modem...same for 54 and beta 55. This happened since 54 update. And now since I reinitialize for the 5th time my headset i cant connect my account anymore... Finally i could connect adding a Facebook account on meta account and using it to connect into meta. This stuff is broken.  After  first deleted Oculus app on my phone& on my computer, i have tried to configure everything on a friend's computer and phone with a totally new installation of the smartphone app, desktop app and a headset reinitialize. Not working. So it can only be a headset issue (that happened for me just after v54 update) . Worst of all: guys please be aware that my headset was overheating since v54 and i think those high temperature are breaking slowly the headset. Mine react much worst day after days. And artifacts are always there now. The connection is not stable at all if i turn my head or move controllers. Its very strong in pcvr and lags occur now slightly with link disabled in settings,.

Guys, are you using a developer account? I'm thinking that dev account activated could maybe be the reason. What do you think?

I do have a dev account open, back when just using standalone.

Hey @LeZech, I could just be misreading your message but it seems like you're experiencing more of an account issue than a Link issue (please correct me if I am wrong). If it started specifically happening after the v54 update, I'd suggest submitting a bug report and reaching out to @MetaQuestSupport in their PMs. Alternatively, you can also create a support ticket.

For Link related issues after v54, I'd check out this thread about the known issue for Air Link performance issues after the update. I know it's specifically for Air Link, but if it's happening as a result of the update you still might be able to find some help here and receive updates on the progress of it's fix.

You also stated your headset has been overheating after v54, which is even more concerning to me. 😟 Whether if it's overheating using Link after extended amount of play, or if it's overheating in general, I think you should reach out to support ASAP.

Thank you but i did it. They askex le to check ly connection...

Wel...

After install the .net softwares etc.

I'm on it since around 10days. I formated th computer but doesn't work.

I tried my friend s phone, pc, and wifi. Noting different.

Only reinitialize the q2 and launch pcvr directly after. Since q2 make the autoupdate, the headset get same issues again

I'll keep you aware guys.

Thank you for the update! I hope to see your issue resolved soon. 🙂
