Link stopped working, but charging via USB3 / Oculus 2 original charger stopped working.

Hey, has anyone else had this issue with Oculus 2: Link stopped working (Windows doesn't recognise the device), no matter what USB3 slot or cable I try, but it does charge through it. However, the original OCULUS charger stopped working at the same time. I'm thinking it might be connected somehow. Current software version is 66. Meta Link, ADB, Windows, Nvidia -all up to date. PS. I had an issue with Link stopping to work after an update before last year - fixed it with joining the public test channel. Nothing seems to work now, even enabling the developer mode. They work appart from that, even via AriLink.

Hey there, Szymon_TAP! We want to help you connect via Link and be able to charge your Meta Quest 2 so you can get back to PCVR ASAP!

Please try the following:

  • Remove any USB splitters or extensions.
  • If possible, try your headset on another PC, please let us know if the problem persists then.
  • Try charging from a different power source (another PC or a different wall outlet) and let us know if your charger still isn't working.

Please let us know if any of the tips helped. I look forward to hearing back from you!

I've tried all that as well as every other possible solution. No luck. Strange that the original Oculus charger and the Link connection with PC stopped working at the same time. PC does not recognise the device. Problem with Windows drivers, Meta drivers or the inlet/connector in goggles?

... I'm using USB 3 C to A cables

Hey @Szymon_TAP! Thank you for this update and additional information. We would like to try and repair the Meta Quest PC app. This is accessed by re-running the Meta Quest setup file. If the setup file detects that the Meta Quest Home has been installed, partially or fully, Repair will appear in the list as an option. Follow the steps bellow:

  1. Go to https://www.meta.com/quest/setup and click Download software.
  2. Select Repair.
    1. If Windows asks you if you are sure you want to open this file, click Yes.
    2. If Windows Defender prompts Windows protected your PC, click More info, and then click Run anyway.
    3. If your antivirus software restricts the file from opening, temporarily disable your AV and continue.
    4. Please remember to re-enable your antivirus software once you have completed the repair.
  3. Allow the repair process to run, download and install.
  4. Launch the Meta Quest PC app.

As for the charging issue we would like you to try a hard reboot. Follow the steps bellow for this:

  1. Hold down the power button and volume down button for 30 seconds until you hear the boot-up sound
  2. If the boot-up sound is not heard, enter the USB Update Mode and select "Boot Device"

Please get back to us once you've given these steps a try. We look forward to your response!

I tried the above and stll no luck.

Hey @Szymon_TAP. It looks like we're gonna have to go another route to fix the issue. The following steps have worked for users on the forum with the same issue. This route will have you go through a series of steps to stop the Oculus software from running completely, remove any Oculus files and software and then finally reinstalling the software in order to regain a proper connection. The directions are as follows:

1. Remove the link cable from the PC.

2. Open up services.msc & stop all the Oculus services manually.

3. Control panel > Programs & Features: Uninstalled Oculus software.

4. Reboot the system & make sure no more Oculus services are running). Also make sure the software is gone.

5. Go into C:\Program Files & remove everything including 'Oculus' in the folder names.

6. Go into AppData Local & Roaming & remove everything containing 'Oculus'.

7. Go into Registry & remove all 'Oculus' entries under Current User - Software & Local Machine - Software.

8. Reboot the PC.

9. Download the Oculus software & Reinstall it.

10. Plug in Q2 after completion.

Please let us know if this help you. Looking forward to your response!
