Live streaming from 360 camera straight to Oculus Quest

Hi,

I want to live stream a 360 video from some camera wirelessly to my Oculus Quest, either over my local network or somehow straight from the camera to my Quest. I want the latency to be as low as possible so I'm not interested in live streaming to YouTube and viewing that on my quest or anything like that.

1. What cameras are available that support this out of the box?
2. What's the lowest latency I can expect to achieve in such a setup?

Thanks!

mmm I'm not sure there's a camera that can do that.

There are drone cameras that can stream to phones using a proprietary wireless link between the drone and the controller, which then connects to a phone or headset but doing a quick search, it seems that 180/360 cameras stream to the internet, either via a PC or some have internet connectivity without the need for a PC connection.

The VR headsets used for drone direct streaming seem to be the variety that are basically phones within a headset running 3D FPV or similar.

There's a distinct lack of development in this area for the Quest which I can understand as drone flying would seem to be the most common use case and using a Quest outdoors is considered risky because of the camera sensitivity. Even if the cameras aren't being used in this case.

I think a custom camera/headset combinations may be your best bet but if anyone else knows different, let us know!

Thanks for your answer! Doing some quick reading, it seems that drone systems don't usually have 360 cameras and I won't be able to "look around" with my headset, is that correct? Some said that there is head tracking but in that case the head movements seem to control a motor that directs the camera to where you want to look. I don't believe that those systems would provide the immersive experience that I'm seeking.

So, for example, I would like to be able to put the camera on a table and watch myself from a 3rd person perspective, and to be able to look around the room by turning my head. In as close to real-time as possible.

Yeah, it looks like even the drones recording 360 are using a separate camera for that and streaming a fixed view for control which makes sense. I think you're probably going to be limited to streaming over the internet and reliance on the server speed, etc.

Maybe test with a cheap webcam or something just to see how horrible latency is with that.

Sounds like a plan. Thanks for your help!

Any progress on this? Was looking for the same. On Quest many Standard Android 2D apps work in windowed mode. I found a apk in playstore that allows any camera to work with Gear 360 camera. I tried it on my Quest 2, with no luck..
Anyone?
It would be cool to have an actual live 360 viewer within Quest using this camera.

I would like to see the same and it would help with Facebook's current construction environment.

I'm interested in this! I'd like to put a 360 camera on the top of the mast of a sailing boat and use the headset to give me a full 360 degree view of the surroundings...
