Update included from valued user

Thursday

@neill.bradley.7 please drop these details into your Original Post:

Dear [Entity Name],

I am writing to bring your attention to a serious consumer protection issue affecting thousands of Meta Quest 2 virtual reality headset owners. A recent official software update from Meta has rendered numerous devices completely inoperable ("bricked"), with no possibility of recovery through standard troubleshooting methods including factory reset attempts.

The affected devices:

  • Do not respond to any button inputs
  • Cannot be connected via USB
  • Display no signs of power or functionality
  • Cannot be restored through any user-accessible means

Meta's official response has been to only replace units still under warranty, leaving many consumers with expensive paperweights due to a manufacturer-pushed software update. This appears to be a clear case of manufacturer negligence resulting in widespread device failure.

Evidence of the widespread nature of this issue can be found in multiple threads on Meta's official forums:

Key concerns:

  1. Meta pushed an update that permanently disabled functional hardware
  2. The company is refusing to take responsibility for out-of-warranty devices
  3. Consumers are being told their only recourse is to purchase new units
  4. This represents a significant financial loss for affected users
  5. The environmental impact of forcing premature hardware disposal is considerable

This situation may violate consumer protection laws regarding:

  • Planned obsolescence
  • Right to repair
  • Consumer goods fitness for purpose

I respectfully request your organization investigate this matter. I can be reached at [Your Contact Information] for any additional information needed.

Affected Device Details:

  • Model: Meta Quest 2
  • Purchase Date: [Date]
  • Serial Number: [Number]
  • Date of Failure: [Date]

Documentation of my attempts to resolve this issue with Meta and relevant correspondence can be provided upon request.

Sincerely, [Your Name]

Hey there neill.bradley.7,

We'd like to help you with your Rift S sensor issue.

Could you tell us more about what happened? Were you experiencing issues before that caused you to reinstall the Meta Horizon app?

Don't pretend you guys don't know about this issue, So many others having their hardware damaged by meta the only way to deal with you is through a small claims court for 3k - enough Meta now you pay.

Hi again @neill.bradley.7, we would like to work with you to try and resolve this issue.

Here is some troubleshooting to try and get you back up and running.

  1. Reseat USB cable from the computer
  2. Reseat cable from the headset
  3. Reboot the computer
  4. Check the lighting:
    • Is the play location well lit? (Turn on more light)
    • Is the play location too bright? (Adjust the intensity, or amount of light
    • Texture is also a factor with tracking. If there is not enough contrast between objects in the room, this could lead to tracking issues.
  5. Check your Windows camera settings:
    1. Open your Windows settings.
    2. Click Privacy.
    3. Click Camera.
    4. Change the Allow apps to access your camera setting to On.
    5. Once you have updated your settings, unplug the headset cables from your computer and plug them back in
  6. Reinstall the drivers:
    1. Open device manager
    2. Go to Universal serial bus controllers
    3. Uninstall/remove all listed Rift S sensor items.
    4. Once removed, click scan for hardware changes at the top of device manager and wait a few minutes for the removed items to come back.

If you are still having issues after this we will need to gather logs from you, to do so we will need to move this conversation over to private messages.

Please select our name to get to our profile page, or click here: https://metaque.st/CommunitySupport. Next, click "Send a Message" to privately message us! Please remember, you must be signed into the community first to send us a private message.

Here we go again, sorry I'm also not going to deal with BOT responses.

All steps have been followed, logs have been submitted and as per other users nothing will be done.

Meta has bricked my rift s and the only resolution is to take you to the small claims court.

Come on lets not pretend you can fix this https://medium.com/outpost2/oculus-rift-s-how-oculus-bricked-thousands-of-headsets-this-christmas-9a...  But then lets keep this ticket open and just for the fun of it attempt to fix it.   I suggest we downgrade the firmware. how about that?

Hey there, we see you have an open ticket with our email team, they are currently working on this case.

Please bear with us as one of our agents will get in touch with you soon.
