We bought a meta quest one second hand and they wiped all their info so we could start from scratch. After logging in my son has been playing Gorilla tag. We bought a few games in the app and they won’t load on the headset. recroom will flash the orange screen and just go back to black. He’s only managed to open fruit ninja and  gorilla tag but noticed he can’t at all access the app lab. Please help

Sorry friend, but Meta ended life for the original Quest 1 back in 2023, and announced Fixes & Patch support would be ended come 2024.

Meta stopped selling the Quest 1 back in 2020, and they no longer want to put resources into supporting the legacy hardware.

You can read about it in their official announcement here: https://www.meta.com/help/quest/articles/headsets-and-accessories/using-your-headset/changes-for-met...

Apps will no longer be updated for it, and eventually you'll reach a point where you can't download apps at all.

Unlike the Oculus Go, despite the hardware running a modified version of Android, they decided NOT to open up the Operating System to the open source community, essentially relegating it to the trash compactor. It's a sad, sad, situation.

What does this mean?

1. You purchased an end-of-life / unsupported console that cannot be updated, and developers can no longer make or update apps for, through official channels.

2. Eventually, most apps that require backend or social connections (internet) will stop functioning.

Please be wary of second-hand purchases - the device is legit, but Meta killed it.

Note: You may be able to continue its life by using it as a PCVR device and trying apps through SteamVR - but you have to keep it connected to your PC, and your PC needs to be sufficiently powerful to run VR apps... and I'm not sure whether that feature will break eventually (given it relies on the Oculus Runtime on your PC, which will not be tailored for the Quest 1 anymore).
