Menu disappears on secondary profile often, including on startup

I posted about an issue with the menu disappearing for the secondary profile after closing the app.

https://communityforums.atmeta.com/t5/Get-Help/Menu-disappears-after-closing-any-app-on-second-accou...

I was told this was an issue that needed to be fixed in a future update, and was happy to see there was an update yesterday, but it seems to have made things way worse. Now the menu just disappears lots of times, including at startup. This is very frustrating, since the secondary profile is used by someone not tech savvy, so they have issues without the menu disappearing constantly. Is this issue known/being worked on, and will there be a fix soon? Even getting it back to the menu only disappearing after closing an app would be better.

Hi @ramun_flame!

We understand how frustrating this can be but we have a few options to attempt to remedy this bug:

Hard Reboot:
Tried and tested age-old method of turning it off and on again. It's simple but can often untangle many bugs.

  1. Press and hold the power button for at least 30 seconds.
  2. Wait 30 seconds.
  3. If your headset doesn't automatically turn back on, press the power button until your headset has turned back on.

If the hard reboot didn't work, move to forcing a new update.

Side-load Update:
On your PC/Laptop, visit Meta Quest Update Tool, select your Quest version and follow the directions on screen to force an update to your headset.
Note. You will be required to connect your headset to your PC during part of this process.

If the Meta Quest Update Tool did not work, the next step would be a factory reset.

Things to consider before you begin:

  • Performing a factory reset is irreversible and will remove all account information, downloaded games and content from your Meta Quest.
  • Performing a factory reset won't remove content you've purchased or downloaded from your account.
  • Turning on cloud backup allows you to save your device's app data and settings before you erase it.
  • Ensure that your headset has at least 50% battery life before performing a factory reset.

To perform a factory reset using your Meta Quest:

  1. Turn off your headset.
  2. Hold the power and volume (-) buttons on your headset down simultaneously until the boot screen has loaded on your headset.
  3. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Factory Reset and press the power button.
  4. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Yes and press the power button.

As mentioned in the previous post, I've already performed a factory reset on this device. It's also up to date. Turning the device on and off is the only way to get the menu to pop up again, but it sometimes needs to be done multiple times since it disappears again before I can launch anything. I made this post to find out if this issue is known and will be fixed soon. Just to reiterate, this is only when using the secondary account on the device.

Edit: I just realized you mentioned doing a hard reboot, as opposed to rebooting normally. The menu doesn't show, so I had to hold the power button to turn it off when this happens, but it wasn't for 30 seconds. Is holding it down for 30 seconds different?

Hi again @ramun_flame!

We understand that your device is up to date but the reason for forcing an update is to re-install the latest version with the hope that it will patch the issues you are currently facing.

When trying to sideload the update, it said on the browser screen:

"Your device is not supported

Please try reconnecting your device, or contact our support team."

I'm going to message you directly. I also tried enabling the voice assistant, so I could at least control the device without the menu, but it looks like the voice assistant has issues as well. It can shut down the device, and answer questions, but it can't launch applications. For example, if I askk it to "Open Puzzling Places", it tells me it is opening Puzzling Places, but then does nothing. It can close the app though.
