Meta Quest 2 Headset Tracking Lost error

Forge_Builder

When I open up my headset, tracking fails completely and I get the "Headset Tracking Lost" popup. Whenever tracking is reenabled, my POV inside of the.. lobby area you spawn in when you boot up the headset flies away until I get the popup. The headset thinks that I am moving vertically and horizontally very quickly despite the fact that I am not moving at all in the real world.

Headset visually fine, no cracks dents or any other obvious physical damage, however it has been dropped multiple times. I assume some sort of hardware thing like the cameras position getting slightly messed up.. I've already factory-reset the thing, is there anything else I should try before messaging support about possible repair or replacement?

Hi there, @Forge_Builder! We certainly want to make sure your headset is running in tip-top shape, so we appreciate you bringing that tracking issue to our attention! For this sort of issue, we have a few questions we'd like you to go through to help narrow it down. When you get the chance, please answer the following:

  • Has your play area changed at all since you first noticed this issue? If possible, we suggest testing a different play area to be sure nothing in the environment is causing these issues.
  • Have you cleaned your device recently? If not, we highly suggest following our standard recommended cleaning practices to ensure nothing is causing interference with the tracking cameras.

We look forward to hearing from you, so get back to us when you can!

My play area is different every time I have to clear an area for it and I never put the items in the same places. Thank you for the suggestion of trying an alternate play area I had not thought of that. I have not cleaned my devise recently, but last time I did so it did not make a difference. I will consult the cleaning practice to see if I can do a better job.

The issue has changed a bit since my last post. I have been able to get tracking somewhat stable after enabling you guy's cloud point.. thingy data sharing. My space is offset by about 10 degrees as if my headset thinks I'm leaning to one side when I am not, however I was successfully able to play beat sabre for over an hour. The tracking is still spotty though, my virtual controllers will frequently teleport behind me briefly before returning to their position, or drift away similar to the original pov drifting issue I had. Will using a more consistent play area or just walking around and letting the headset take in the surroundings provide any benefits? Thanks!

Thank you so much for the follow up with that information. In your play area make sure it's well lit and that there's no LED light or reflective surfaces. these could cause issues with the sensors on your headset. Keep us updated!
