Meta Quest 2 current version at 50.0.0.xxxx.xxxx fails to update to latest version (currently 69)

I have done the following to force update my headset:

  1. Used the Sideload software tool on the Meta website
  2. Tried to force an update by performing a factory reset (not once but twice; very painful timewise btw)

When I log into my Meta Account, the site states that I do not have a device registered.  What?

The Meta Horizon phone app shows my device serial number, connects to it and works as expected (except when performing a factory reset)

How can I update my Quest 2 headset to the latest software version as I currently cannot purchase a couple of games because of this issue?

Hello Clayton.dean.625,

We get how frustrating it can be when you are having problems with updating your device. We would love to check this out with you to see if we can get this update installed without failing.

Somethings you can try to get this resolved are the following:

  • Sign out of the app
  • Uninstall the app and leave sitting for 5 minutes
  • Reinstall the app and leave sitting for a couple minutes
  • Sign back into the app and try to pair again
  • Clear Bluetooth cache/computer history of the app.
  • Reboot the headset (hold power button and volume down for 30-40 seconds)

If you have tried this and none of the above has worked, then we would like it if you could reach out to us via a private message so we can look closer into this. When you say, "Sign out of the app", do you mean the iPhone Meta Horizon app or the Oculus PC program or both?

Hi there!

We get that it can be a bit confusing, so we hope that we can clear that part up a bit. In this case, we meant the application on your phone to see if that helps with completing the installation.

If the issue persists, just let us know and we can check this out further.

Ok, so, no, that did not help.  I am still at 50.0.0.198.257.455910822

Hello There!

Thank you so much for reaching out to us via a private message so we can look into this further.

Since your Meta Quest 2 is now stuck while trying to run the initial updates, you can also try the following if you have not done so already.

  1. First, make sure you plug your Meta Quest 2 in with the charger that came in the box.
  2. Next, wait until your headset is fully charged.
  3. Your updates should resume automatically while your headset is plugged in, on, and charging.
  4. If the updates don't resume within 1 hour, please reboot your headset.

Let us know what the results are when doing this.
