Meta Quest 3 Hand Tracking Breaks Controllers

Spanman852

Hello,

I have been using my MQ3 since Christmas but found today that the controllers no longer work. When I booted it up the system had switched from controller mode to hand tracking, but the game I wanted to play required controllers. The prompt suggested I pick up the controllers and select continue, but despite doing this the continue option stayed greyed out and the controllers did not produce their "selection lasers". Pushing any or all of the controller buttons had no effect.

I attempted to fix this by going into settings and disabling hand tracking, as well as restarting the headset. Again I attempted to press various buttons to wake the controllers but it didn't work and now without hand tracking I can no longer select or do anything in the system menus. I have not used the controllers heavily and consider it very unlikely they are both out of battery power, especially as this coincided with the update that forced hand tracking. I can see a cursor with head tracking but do not know how to make it "click" so I cannot re-enable gesture tracking. How can I get the controllers working again, or even re-enable hand tracking?

Thanks,

Scott

Thanks for your help, of all things I was certain the problem wasn't running out of batteries since they both failed simultaneously and the hand tracking activated at the same time but it turns out that's what it was! Thanks again.

Hey there, @Spanman852! We were just stopping by as we noticed that you're facing some difficulties with your controllers, and we definitely understand how crucial controllers are when trying to have a stellar VR experience. So we'd be more than happy to assist! We'd like to provide you with a few tips to try:

  • Remove any unsupported third-party accessories that may affect power, battery fit, or controller detection (such as rechargeable grips, controller covers, etc.).
  • Change the controller battery and check the LED status (blinking, solid, or no light at all).
  • Ensure your area is free of reflective surfaces such as mirrors, glass, or polished marble.
  • Ensure your environment is free of any obstructions between the tracking cameras and the controllers.
  • Remove the battery from the controller for at least 30 seconds.
  • Try replacing the battery with a new one.
  • Unpair and pair the controllers with the headset.

Additionally, we'd like you to check out this article with tips on getting started with hand tracking! Let us know if this helps; we're happy to look into other possible options if needed.
