Meta Quest Remote Desktop Update downloads but does not install on Windows 11

RodrigoUK

Hi.
Every time I start my PC, I get the message that there is a new version of the Meta Quest Remote Desktop to download and install.
The problem is after the file is downloaded and I clink on install, the box simply closes and nothing happens.

Would anyone be able to shed a light on this issue?

Thanks!

I have the same issue and even uninstalled the 'Remote desktop app' and the issue still occurs. The issue continues even after uninstalling the Meta Remote desktop app.

Running Windows 11 23H2 22631.4391

Meta Quest Link: 71.0.0.238.524 (71.0.0.238.524)

Update:

I also had yo do an uninstall of the Meta Quest Link app as well to resolve this issue.

Yesterday, after trying to install it several times, I came to think it was a Trojan. It left me with computer connection problems. I don't understand how they can pull this **bleep** like this.

Every time I get an alert about a new version, it is easier for me to go straight to the meta website and download the new version instead of agreeing to install it through the Windows alert.

I'm seeing your on V71. This means your on Beta testing Meta Quest Link, V71 is unsable. I had to do was exit the whole entire app and restart my PC and try again to get PTC V71 to work on the app. But, one issue right now, it's stuck on startup launch, no way to change it as far I know of.

I do the same thing. Alot of less hassle

I've been getting this pop-up about updating Remote Desktop Server, and the same behavior (doesn't install the update). Thing is, I had uninstalled Remote Desktop a few weeks ago, when I read that the functionality was being moved to the Link app (I never used Remote Desktop or Workrooms anyway).

I re-installed and uninstalled Remote Desktop, which seems to have resolved it, although even with it uninstalled, the Remote Desktop process is still running from a sub-folder of the Link app (I guess that's the start of the transition to Link providing the functionality without an extra program).

I also tried signing in while I had the app re-installed, but I couldn't. It opened the meta auth website, but when I clicked Sign In, it gave an error about no program associated with the sign-in.

I hope they clean up all these issues with the v71 PC app soon--it still launches itself on PC start-up with no option to stop it without messing with the OVR server permissions (which I don't want to do, because then Link can't be launched from the headset).

DK2, CV1, Go, Quest, Quest 2, Quest 3.

Hello @nalex66 !

We understand Remote Desktop is still not installing properly. We know how frustrating this issue is, so rest assured, we are here to help! We suggest you to try the below troubleshooting steps:

  •  Repair the Meta Quest PC Application. This is accessed by re-running the Meta Quest setup file. If the setup file detects that Meta Quest Home has been installed, partially or fully, Repair will appear in the list as an option.

  1. Go to https://www.meta.com/quest/setup and click Download software.
  2. Select Repair.
    1. If Windows asks you if you are sure you want to open this file, click Yes.
    2. If Windows Defender prompts Windows protected your PC, click More info, and then click Run anyway.
    3. If your antivirus software restricts the file from opening, temporarily disable your AV and continue.
    4. Please remember to re-enable your antivirus software once you have completed the repair.
  3. Allow the repair process to run, download and install.
  4. Launch the Meta Quest PC app
  • Install the latest Meta Quest drivers.

  1. Close the Meta Quest PC app.
  2. Press the Windows key + R on your keyboard to open the Run command.
  3. Enter C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-drivers. (File path may be different per user based on the install location)
  4. Open oculus-driver.
  5. Open the Meta Quest PC app and then try to connect your headset again.
