Hi, My Meta Quest 3 failed to connect to the right controller after the headset update.  This also happened to my Meta Quest 2 after the head set update.

Hi there,

We understand that you are having some problems with the connection of your controllers after installing the latest update.

There are a couple things we can try and do to see if that helps with resolving the problems you are having with the connection of the controllers. Please, follow the steps below:

  • Remove unsupported third-party accessories that may affect the connection with the controller.
  • Change the controller battery and check the LED status (blinking, solid, or no light at all
  • Unpair and pair the controller to the headset.
  • Make sure that the phone is compatible with the Meta Horizon mobile app. (check for an update)
  • Make sure that the phone and headset are connected to the same network, on the same frequency

If all of these steps do not help with resolving the problems with the controller you can try to see if a Factory reset is able to sort out this problem. How to perform a factory reset you can find on the following link: Factory reset your Meta Quest headset.

Before you do the factory reset we do suggest to have a look at the following link about making a Cloud backup.

Hope these steps are able to help you out with resolving the problem but if not we are here to help you out!

Hi,

None of the steps, including factor reset fixes for my Quest 3.  The last step of the factory reset made it worse that Quest 3 got stuck in the pairing screen because it failed to pair the right controller.  I did see the "updating right controller..." message and succeeded but the controller LED kept blinking.  I strongly believe your PTC v68, which I never enrolled in this program, caused this.   For my Quest 2 where the right controller broke for the same reason after the PTC v68 update, I've tried all the instructions except the factory reset and didn't fix it.

Hey @spamblaster. We appreciate this is not an ideal situation, however, we'd love to help you find a solution!

Other users have reported that taking the batteries out and putting them back in fixes this issue. However, this appears to be a temporary fix.

Can you try doing this and let us know if this has worked for you. If not, please send us a PM so we can investigate further!

Hi,  removing the battery is the first thing I tried before I posted my issues to this forum as I suspected it could be a low battery issue.  Replacing/removing the battery pre/post the factory reset, pre/post unpair the controller didn't fix this problem either.  If any code is downloaded to the controller, I am suspecting a version of that code had destroyed my Quest 3 and Quest 2 controllers.  Is there a way to factory reset the controller?

We appreciate you letting us know, @spamblaster. In that case, we definitely want to do our best to get to the bottom of why your controller is having trouble connecting properly! Moving forward, we'd like to let you know that only the Meta Quest 3 controllers are able to be factory reset, however, we definitely recommend giving that a try if that is the controllers you have. Please use these steps to do so then get back to us with your results:

  1. Use the correct button combination to start the factory reset process.
  • Right: Hold the A button and tap the Home (Meta logo) button 5 times.
  • Left: Hold the X button and tap the Menu button 5 times.
  1. The LED will blink orange/white while the factory reset is being performed.
  2. The LED will then change to light blue during boot.
  3. Controllers can be used again as normal once the boot is complete.

This doesn't work either.  Holding the A button and tap the Home button 5 times didn't do it.  I removed the battery , put it back 10 seconds later and tried again, that also didn't do anything.   I don't see LED blink orange/white pattern.   This is getting frustrating when I can't use any of the Quest 3 and 2 after that update.

The LED on the right controller always blinks.  Left controller continue to work after the headset reset.

To add more details from the Meta Quest Horizon app:

Left controller SN: 738f2e0932063b0c,  battery 100%, Firmware Version: 1.20.2

Right controller SN: a66328f86031c258.  Now battery % and Firmware Version shown.
