Meta Quest mobile app shows blank camera roll when trying to upload custom profile picture

I have been trying to upload a custom profile picture onto my account for a while now, but every time I try to it shows as if every picture was just a transparent image. You can select an "image", but it just errors out and doesent work. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Would you happen to be on a Google Pixel phone, and/or be on the Android 14 Beta? https://developer.android.com/about/versions/14/get
Similarly - would you happen to know if you've granted the app permission to access your photos? To confirm,  you can go to the Home screen on your android phone, search for your app, then hold the icon until you get the popup which allows you to get app info or delete. Click into app info, and check your permissions.

I am currently on a moto g7 power, on android 10. I just checked, and I have storage and location on.

 (not gonna upload a picture of my phone info for privacy)

Hi there @rayzwastaken, we see you are having issues uploading a profile picture from the mobile app. Being able to use a custom photo to express yourself is something we highly encourage, and we understand the importance of getting this functionality working for you!

Since no photos are popping up on the app, can you try the following in order:

1. Delete the mobile app and erase any of the app data.
2. Restart your phone.
3. Reinstall the app.
4. Allow permissions to use your photos.
5. Try uploading a profile picture again.

This should work out any kinks there may be with the phone or the mobile app. If you notice the issue is still there, we can give you steps to upload your profile picture from the PC app instead.

I tried doing this twice, but it ended in no results. There wasent any change at all, and it had the same exact problem. I would rather not use the PC app as its file size is very big and takes a while to download and set up, just to change a profile picture. Though, if I cant find a fix, then alright.

Hey there @rayzwastaken! While updating on the app is typically the best option (When it works) we would love to provide some alternative options.

• First, we would like to request you try from your accounts center, this can be done from your phone browser by visiting this link: https://accountscenter.meta.com/profiles and logging into your Meta account.
• Next, if that does not help, consider an alternative version of the picture you are wanting to use?
  • You mentioned it is large, is it maybe too large?
  • What file type is it by chance? We know some phones have their own file formats, and perhaps the picture is saved as a non typical format our website doesn't recognize?
• Lastly for the time being, have you tried using the same picture on the forums or anywhere else? If nothing else, just to make sure its usable in other places.

In any case, customizable profile pictures is an important thing and we would love to help you get this figured out as soon as possible!

So, first, trying using the link only allows you to use a facebook or instagram account, which I dont have either of, and arent attached to my meta account. The picture is not large at all only being 620 kb, and its a simple png. Finally, I have tried uploading the image onto other places, including the forums (on my profile picture and attached to this post), and had no issues whatsover.

Hey @rayzwastaken, thank you for letting us know! We are glad it is working some places. The link should be allowing you to login with your Meta account, but let us give you some step by step instructions from the Meta account website:

1. Visit auth.meta.com on your phone browser
2. Tap the "Login with email" option near the bottom
3. Login with your Meta account email and password
4. Locate and hit the "Other Settings" button
5. Locate and hit the "Go To Accounts Center" button
6. On the Profiles tab, locate your "Meta Horizon" profile and change your profile picture from there

Please let us know how this works for you. Alternatively, If you want to try from your PC, you can visit this forums post and redownload the picture from this thread instead of messing with other transfer options. We know its not always so easy to transfer between devices. We hope the suggested steps above help you out! Just let us know.

Step 6 doesent work for me. I cant find any profiles tab and anytime I click on something to add an account, it just asks for a facebook and/or instagram login. It might be that the profiles tab is locked behind a facebook or instagram account.

After further looking into this concern, updating the profile photo does appear to be a feature granted when the account is linked with a Facebook or Instagram. Since the account does not have one currently linked, this is why, when going through our steps provided one is being requested. If you would like to continue changing your profile, we do recommend linking to a social media account. Of course, if you have any further questions or concerns, do let us know!
