Meta quest 3 black screen with 3 dots. Sometimes even a passthrough screen with three dots

Hey there, I just got this device. On first setup things were fine overall. Then all the sudden when I try to open apps I get a black screen and the three dots. It doesn't ever usually open. A few times it has also cleared the screen of all content and stayed clear with the three dots. Sometimes I can hear what would normally appear like with prime VR. It is incredibly frustrating. I have done 5 different factory resets. Changing nothing before trying it. I don't have access to a PC to side load as I am currently in the hospital. Help would be great!

Hello Frostyfootwear,

We get that you're having issues when starting Meta Quest; it seems like you're either stuck on a black screen or three dots. We understand that this is not the kind of experience you're wanting, but we are here to assist you.

We also have some troubleshooting steps we can provide. See steps below:

  • Try removing any unsupported third-party accessories that may affect boot (such as external battery packs, accessories that plug into the USB-C port, etc.)
  • Check for sufficient battery charge. Charge the headset for at least 2 hours.
  • Hard Reboot the headset. Hold down the power button and volume down button for 30 seconds until you hear the boot-up sound

We hope this is able to help you resolve the problem so you have something to do while you are in the hospital.
