Meta quest 3 not picking up USB 3.0

Simo_Games

As the title suggests, when I plug in my quest 3 it always chooses a 2.0 port instead of a 3.0 port. I have confirmed that the USB port I am putting the cable into supports 3.0 and confirmed that when a USB 3.0 device is plugged in it works as a 3.0.

I bought https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09WYLQ55R?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1 which is a USB 3.0 to USB C adapter. I have tried to use my MacBook cable, my iPad cable, the cable that came in the quest 3 box and a generic USB C cable I bought from a market stall. With every cable, quest picks 2.0, I confirmed this through the headset and USB device tree viewer. I read online turning the USB C over can help, I did that with no luck.

Is anyone else having this issue and did you find a solution. I'd rather not fork out loads of money just for a cable, the VR was expensive enough.

Hi, Im still having issues. My PC is compatible after using your link that was provided. I went out and bought a cable that is specifically made for 3.0 Quest 3 connection. I am placing the USB in 1 of my 4 ports that support 3.0 but yet the quest still only chooses the 2.0 header.

What else can I do? Is there not a setting or anything?

Hey again @Simo_Games! Just to make sure we are both on the same page, are you using a windows PC or a Mac? We ask this because while spec wise a Mac may meet the minimum requirements, it isn't compatible. However, if you are using a windows PC, we would recommend updating the drivers to begin troubleshooting the port issue. You can update Nvidia drivers here, and you can update AMD drivers here. We look forward to hearing from you to be able to further assist you.

Hi, Im on a windows PC. The first thing I tried was to update all of my drivers. Below is my PC specs,

CPU - AMD Ryzen 5 3600X 6 - Core processor

Ram - 32gb DDR4

Mobo - Gigabyte B550M DS3H AM4

GPU - AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT

I still cant seem to get it to run on 3.0 at all, no matter what I do it doesnt seem to connect through 3.0. It is connected through my 3.0 header but is then choosing 2.0 for some reason. I have used the cable that comes in the box, my iPad cable, my macbook cable, multiple different USBs an I have just bought one from Game which is specifically made for Quest 3 for 3.0 connection.

I have tried plugging other things into the same port and its picking it up as 3.0 just not my quest.

Hey again @Simo_Games! Thank you for this information and your PC does meet requirements. We were able to find an article about reseating the cable into the port using a different orientation, which you can see here. We also found an accepted solution in our community forums which you can see here. At the top of the page it will say, "go to accepted solution". It's suggesting a hard reboot and we will share the steps for that below:

To restart your headset:

  1. With your headset on and powered on, press and hold the power button on the right side of your headset until you see the Power off screen.
  2. Select Restart. Your headset will turn off and then turn back on.

If you're headset is unresponsive or you're otherwise unable to restart your headset, you can do a force restart:

  1. Press and hold the power button for at least 30 seconds.
  2. Wait 30 seconds.
  3. If your headset doesn't automatically turn back on, press the power button until your headset turns back on.

Please get back to us after you have given these a try.

Hi, Ive tried everything on the two links and also the restarting. I have tried restarting the Quest twice as it suggested, both with the cable plugged in and without it plugged in.

I have checked drivers for GPU, CPU and Mobo and all are up to date. I have also tried taking out the connection from my USB ports to the mobo and checked it wasnt clogged up or broken in anyway. Im still getting USB 2.0 and have no idea how to go from here.

I have overclocked my GPU and CPU, could that be an issue?

Hey, @Simo_Games, overclocking your GPU and CPU shouldn't be an issue since it is not accelerating the Quest's software only the PC. Although we would like you to try one more troubleshooting step to see if any changes were made, please uninstall and reinstall the PC app and launch it.

Please let us know if it worked; we hope to hear back from you soon!
