Meta threatening to suspend my account if I don't upload ID

belarm314

Meta sent me an email asking me to enter my birthday to stop my account from being suspended. When I contacted support, they actually changed the requirement - now I have to upload a copy of my ID to a company known for leaking and selling user data. After asking multiple times, I finally got a straight answer out of them: I will lose access to all my software, including single-player games, if I do not comply with this requirement.

At this point I'm asking for a full refund, as I feel this is a condition I didn't agree to and they are planning to brick my device. Has anyone else had success in doing this?

Hey there, @belarm314

We understand that you may not be comfortable providing ID, however we require ID to prove the age on your account. This is to protect our younger users who may be on accounts that are not for their age.

Our ID verification system is fully automated and no one will see it other than our automated system to verify you.

In creating an account you accept our Supplemental Terms of Service, in which we state:

"1.1.d. You must provide us with accurate and up to date information (including registration information), which may include providing your or your child’s personal data. Also, you may not impersonate someone you aren’t."

If you are not willing to provide this, then unfortunately we will not be able to assist with getting you back into your account as otherwise we have no way of proving that you are the correct age for your account.

Also you made me link my occulus account to my facebook account. You HAVE my birthday!

Hey!

We can assure you that we are not a bot. All of our support channels for Meta Quest have real agents, the only automated messages you will receive is when you open and close an emails case.

Even if your account is linked to Facebook, anyone can set their Birthday to be incorrect to pretend to be a different age. This is why we sometimes request ID to ensure that our users are the correct age.

If you would like any more details on why this is, or want to appeal this suspension, please send us a private message.

That's even sadder, actually.
