Microphone Volume on Quest 3

Hi. Now that I'm using the Q3, I'm told that I'm really loud to others when in multi-play. Is there a way to turn down my microphone so it doesn't seem like I'm yelling at others?

Same, I'm still looking for answer

Hi there @OQ_Laura and @Khebab, we see you both are wanting to know how to reduce the microphone's audio input. We understand the importance of being able to talk to your friends without appearing too loud, and we would love to guide you on this matter.

Seeing as this is not a feature we have for our headsets, we highly recommend that you both submit this suggestion over at the Ideas Forums. If enough users chime in on the post and make some noise, our engineers can stumble upon the thread and maybe implement such a feature in the future!

Aside from this, you can look into the game's setting for a mice volume slider. This could be worth looking into.

We hope this gave you some insight into the matter. If you ever have any other questions, please don't hesitate to let us know. Thank you!

Exactly the same, I am really loud to others and was told I breathe like Vader, no adjustment in my game options available and mic on is a competitive lobby requirement, meta please fix 👍😉

I have the same problem using the Quest 3 - being told that there's a lot of p-popping noise when I speak, which is then allegedly cancelling out following syllables and thus making conversations almost impossible or only bearable with lots of patience on the listener's side.

I've now seen a plethora of similar complaints about this and I'm flabbergasted by the response to bring up a better way to handle the mic issues 'in the ideas forum'. This should be a "known issue", "being worked on" and "hopefully solved in the next month" on Meta's side by now.

Weird in having the opposite. My friend had to stand in my guy and to hear me and said it was still as if I was whispering and I was almost yelling at that point.

Hey there, @iiAven9err! Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We'd love to assist you and suggest a few things that may help enhance that microphone sound. We know the importance of being heard when enjoying gameplay with friends and we want to ensure that our users are getting the VR experience they deserve! Please try the following:

  • Make sure the microphone is clean and not obstructed (the microphone has two pinholes located a few inches apart, one on either side of the nose).
  • Remove any unsupported third-party accessories that may block the microphone (such as a third-party facial interface, etc.).
  • Test with multiple games or apps.
  • If it is happening only in one game or app, check the game or app permissions to make sure the microphone is enabled.
  • Reset Microphone Settings > System > Sound > Toggle Microphone
  • Reboot the headset.

Let us know if this helps; if not, we'd be happy to look into other possible options. We look forward to hearing from you!

Thanks for following up.  I guess the issue was that the audio is just much louder on the Quest 3 than on the Quest 2.   Once I turned the volume down a couple notches, I didn't get any more complaints that I was too loud.

Don't know if it's possible, but in the future it'd be super nice to separate incoming and outgoing volume.  Yesterday someone had a hard time hearing me and all I could do was turn my master volume up, but then it was like THEY were yelling in my ear.  Ha ha ha!
