Microphone barely audible in recordings

grafvonbruegge

Hi there, I record gameplay videos and suddenly the microphone is barely audible. It worked fine a couple days ago, but all of a sudden my voice is super super quiet. Is there a chance of a defect, or has there been any changes to the microphone? Last video I recorded with proper audio was on december 7th. yesterday on 20th december I recorded a new video and audio was gone.

Hello @grafvonbruegge! We would love to help you with the microphone on your Quest 3. We know how important it is to have good sound quality and proper audio when recording game play. Let's go ahead and start out with some basic troubleshooting.

Please try the following steps:

  1. Make sure the microphone is clean and not obstructed (the microphone has two pinholes located a few inches apart, one on either side of the nose).
    1. Remove any unsupported third-party accessories that may block the microphone (such as a third-party facial interface, etc.).
  2. Test with multiple games or apps.
    1. If it is happening only in one game or app, check the game or app permissions to make sure the microphone is enabled.
  3. Reset Microphone
    • Settings > System > Sound > Toggle Microphone
  4. Reboot the headset.
  5. Factory reset

After trying these steps, if the issue still persists, please feel free to reach out to us for further assistance.

Hi there,

1.: I checked the holes, nothing to see there, also only stock equipment is used.

2.: I tested with a couple of apps today. I tested Beat Saber, Pavlov, Golf+, all with the same result. Game Audio is good, and the voice is there, but super super quiet.

3.: Also did that, no change.

4.: Did not do that, because I don´t want to re-install everything. But I asked a couple of people who also have a quest 3, all of them told me, they have the same issue (they don´t record much, so they didn´t noticed it yet). There is also another thread here where this issue is mentioned by a couple of people who have this issue after installing the latest update.

Hey @grafvonbruegge, thank you for your patience while your engineers look into this issue!

There's some information that we'd like to gather from you and anyone who may be facing this issue after updating to v60.

Please provide the following:

  • What device are you using?
  • Are you using the PTC build?
  • How consistent is this happening?
  • What Software Version is your Meta Quest Mobile App?
  • What Software Version is your Meta Quest Headset?
  • Are you mostly seeing this with Link, Air Link and Standalone?
  • Does it only happen in specific apps and if so, which apps?
  • Are you using any accessories with your Quest 3 that might cover parts of the headset like custom straps or anything that might cover the microphones?
  • Please share recordings of the mic quality, if possible!

The recording quality was bad before V60 with the huffing and puffing noises but after V60 it is worse because I can barely here myself in recordings so its double bad now!

So,

1. Device: Meta Quest 3 - 128 GB Version

2. PTC Build: I don´t know what that is, so I can´t answer it

3. How consistent: all the time

4. Mobile App: 245.2.2.13.119

5.: Headset:

System Version: 49777350066500510

Firmware: 60.0.0.210.365

Build IDSQ3A.220605.009.A1

4: I only use it standalone, I can´t say anything about linked connection.

5: No I tested various Games, such as Golf+, Pavlov, Beat Saber

6: No Accessories

7: Link is attached from a Golf+ test. In a normal way of speaking it´s really quiet. It get´s better if you raise your voice. But I really want to yell during recordings, so this is not a suitable workaround.

I have the same issue after Update V60

I can't hear my voice at all on The Quest 3 as soon as there is game sound, as if the microphone volume were at 1%

The Meta Quest 2 has had the same problem since I bought it in 2021, but I thought it could simply be my Quest 2.

This is my Video in German Language in Walkabout Minigolf. Quest 2 is a little bit louder.

Microphone is to quiet in Standalone mode only

i tested in Horizon Home & Passtrough Mode, in Walkabout Minigolf, Asgards Wrath 2
It's constantly too quiet regardless of what game I'm playing.

I don't use any accessories that could clog the microphones, I have the original face gasket that came with the Quest 3.

I had already shared my YouTube video above your comment, the audio is unedited and at the original volume as I recorded it with the Quest 2 and Quest 3. The two recordings can be heard in the video at Walkabout Minigolf, first Quest 2 and then Quest 3
