Monitor Low Quality while connected through Display Port Issue

KMBiggs

Good morning,

After waiting almost a month, I received my Oculus Rift yesterday (though I won't have the Touch controllers until monday :neutral: lol). Anyway, I am running Win 10 with GTX 1070, so since there is only one HDMI input, I purchased a DisplayPort to HDMI (supporting up to 4K) cable for the monitor.

The problem is when connected to the displayport, my monitor coloring looks low res, and I would rather not have to constantly swap HDMI's back and forth. I have not found a setting that has been changed on Win 10, but I'm not sure if there's another place in Settings I need to look. I took 2 screenshots to demonstrate the difference but it's just showing what is being rendered from the GPU and not what is displaying so they look identical. When using however, the difference could be equated to normal vs safe mode in the old days.

Anybody know the fix to this?

Sounds to me like a faulty DP->HDMI adapter.

What device do you have connected through it? A monitor, or rift?
Which ever it is, you could try swapping them over.

My 1060 has 1xDVI (monitor 1), 1xHDMI (rift), and 3xDP (monitors 2 & 3 via DP->HDMI adapters), and it worked fine.

Did you check in the Nvidia control panel to make sure the output settings are right when you're plugged into the DisplayPort?

DK2, CV1, Go, Quest, Quest 2, Quest 3.

I had the Rift set to the HDMI and monitor on DisplayPort

Nvidia control panel showed correct settings

It was one simple setting on my monitor that made the difference. I didn't realize it set the new connection to Energy Efficient mode. I didn't think that would cause such a drop in quality but looks that way.

Thank you both for the help.
