Mutliple Issues getting started

sonoflysander
Honored Guest
I got my oculus yesterday and followed the instructions to get everything setup, but I can't seem to get it to work correctly.
Symptoms:
  • IF it displays anything, it is only the desktop (can't display any game directly to the headset) and my phsyical screen goes blank
  • Everything is rotated 90 degrees to the right.
  • On windows was displaying in both eyes, but recent attempts on linux have only displayed in right eye

I'm using Ubuntu 14.04 x64, I don't have Windows right now (I borrowed a friend's laptop yesterday for Windows). I've compiled the linux-sdk and even created the neccessary symlink, but perhaps I have just have incompatible hardware?

Here are my specs (the output of lshw, sorry it's kinda long):

I have the same problem. Have you done anything that I described in my post?

Also on ubuntu 14.04, no great solution yet, some debugging:

Running xrandr the DK2 shows up as HDMI2:

guy@numitor:~$ xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 3000 x 1920, maximum 32767 x 32767
VGA1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
HDMI1 connected primary 1920x1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 820mm x 461mm
1920x1080 60.0*+ 59.9
1920x1080i 60.1 60.0
1280x1024 60.0
1360x768 60.0
1280x720 60.0 59.9
1024x768 75.1 70.1 60.0
1440x480i 60.1 60.1 60.1
800x600 72.2 75.0 60.3 56.2
720x480 60.0 59.9
640x480 75.0 72.8 60.0 59.9
720x400 70.1
HDMI2 connected 1080x1920+1920+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 71mm x 126mm
1080x1920 75.0*+ 72.0 60.0
1080x948 120.0
DP1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
HDMI3 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
VIRTUAL1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)

By default its in 1080x1920 mode. The 0.3.2 oculus config util rejects this and
says to put the oculus in native resolution. To make it happy rotate it left:

xrandr --output HDMI2 --rotate left

This will be in extended mode, to switch mine to mirrored(not required):

xrandr --output HDMI2 --same-as HDMI1

So thats step 1, oculus works as a monitor and the 0.3.2 config tool starts up and recognizes it. But that is the extent of my success. The IPD measurement crashes constantly(probably due to HD4000, waiting on nvidia's next gpu's to drop). The world demo renders, but is off center:

http://i.imgur.com/rsypN19.png

it almost looks like its rendering for 1920x1920 (but the window rendered to is verified 1920x1080)

Getting DK2 support with the old SDK on Linux may or may not be a good experience.

We do plan to continue Linux support, but I don't know how long it will be until the next release.

Yeah, im having the same off-centre issues. Waiting impatiently for the 0.4 Linux SDK so I can do some actual dev work.
In the mean time it looks like the issue covers Steam/Source VR games as well as the Oculus Demos.

I think you are probably right about something pulling in the non-rotated screen sizes, for a 1920x1920 monitor

This is for windows so don't know if you get anything out of it but...

My only solution to this in extended mode is to set the oculus as the main display, then the game starts in the correct monitor

My 690GTX can't handle Direct mode at all

Interestingly if I set my 610GT as the main display it will go into Direct mode just fine but then it uses the 610GT as the device to run the game on so I get only a few frames per second.
