I got a free replacemnt a few months ago for my original preordered Elite battery strap and this now all works great. My new one said on the box it was made in Dec/2023. So, maybe check your Strap's date to see if you have an older one or not. In any case, if you are having issues you are best to contact Meta support.

also if you leave the cable connected when not in use the battery pack will discharge quite quickly

Ya, that's the same with both my Q2 and Q3 Elite battery straps. I wouldn't say the discharge is all that high, maybe 10-15% if left overnight, for me anyway. Still best to disconnet the cable if you're not going to use it for a while imho.
