My Oculus is Damaged, and I need some guidance on what's next.

My cat was fooling around on my desk,  and knocked a 40" TV I was using as a monitor off the back off the back of the desk.  It landed behind the computer breaking the LCD of the tv,  and very unfortunately damaging the USB input of my Oculus CV1 in such a way that it no longer functions or is detected by my PC.  I get the feeling it's as simple as cutting off the old USB and wire-by-wire splicing in a new USB3.0 connection but I don't have the know-how or the assurance that the wires in the CV1's cable are properly colored for a re-pin into a USB cable.

Is there a decent way to go about this,  or do I cross my fingers and send it in or?

First, sorry to hear that. I have cats too and I could write BOOKS about the damage they already did to all kinds of electronics. Sigh.

From your description it's not entirely clear what is broken on the Rift. In general, the Rift is no easy repairable AT ALL although I could see being able to fix/splice a new USB cable with some DIY and soldering skills. If the connector or something inside is damaged, chances for repair are even lower since it's in all likelihood a flat ribbon connector or something else which is broken and they are virtually un-repairable.

Oculus does not do repairs AT ALL. They only do RMA exchanges as far as I know. And worse, you just described a damage that as unfortunate as it is is IMHO likely not be accepted for RMA/return since it's not a manufacturing defect but your (or your cat's) fault that the Rift broke. That being said, I am not a O employee of course and they will likely be able to tell you more, so support a ticket. I would not necessarily describe the problem as you just did here in the post...hint hint...because this is almost a guarantee you'll be out of luck with any RMA.

Edit: What do you mean with "USB Input" of the Rift? Do you mean at the PC side...or the HDMI connector at the Rift? The Rift itself doesn't have an "USB Input".

The Rift does have a USB/HDMI Hybrid cable though and I think thats what he is referring to. If that is the case then he's in luck because you can just buy a new cable for $60:

Edit: It's $60 for me, I just realised it changes based on shipping so not sure what it is for you.

Get the 4 meter Oculus Headset Cable. That will replace the cable for both HDMI and USB connection, if that really is your problem.

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure this is an issue that wouldn't be replaceable under warranty as it falls under neglect on your part (blame your cat).

Did the Headset actually get pulled off the table with the monitor? Did it suffer any kind of impact directly to the headset? If so then it might be more than just the cable .. in which case buying a new cable might be a bit of a gamble. No way to know what else of it might be damaged.

I don't know if Oculus has any kind of short-term return policy on accessories but I doubt it.

If you're sure the cable is physically damaged, you should buy another cable as the other guys have already suggested. If you're not sure about damage, first make sure everything is securely plugged in on both ends of the cable (it plugs into the headset behind the face ring, which can be pulled out from the headset). Also, sometimes swapping to a different USB port can overcome detection failures.

The shipping carrier varies by region. Usually you can just paste the number into Google and it will suggest the most relevant carrier on the top.
