So, I just got the Oculus Rift today and went to set it up factory new into my PC, I set up a sensor in the right area and placed the HDMI into the HDMI slot and the USB into the USB slot, Upon going through the steps I noticed that it wasn't recognizing my HDMI although it was recognizing the others, I immediately thought there was a problem with the HDMI but once I went out it said for the Rift Headset that I needed a "Firmware Update" with no information on how to actually do this, I need help and I think this problem has effected multiple people from what I have seen too yet I can't find a solution!
Same here. Just got my yesterday. I needed about 20 attempt, but somehow i got the setup working. No I am stuck in the "Update Firmware" Loop like you, with no HDMI connection. I tried all provided solutions which google could print out, nothing worked. Plugged it on another PC, same result. I highly suspect on faulty hardware.
If it is new, i would not hesitate to return it and buy a new one, the risk is to high it stops working sometimes later and you are sitting on 400$ chunk. If the second one has the same error, the system is simply to complex to really work and I would try a different manufacturer. This is not the nicest solution, but will sort out badly designed devices from markets.
Actually there is something else that I'd like to ask, If your GPU is lower than the recommended amount would that be a cause for the HDMI not appearing?

Maybe. But if your HDMI is connected to internal GPU (like intels) it will not work for sure.
Edit: i have posted (in this thread) a summary with all Threads from reddit/oculusvr regarding the HDMI, hardware error and setup error. Unfortunately oculus has deleted my post. Should have saved it in an text editor, it was a lot of work and is gone now. Why?
One questtion: Does your Rift appear as display in windows, when you connect it into hdmi port? Mine does it on none of the 2 PCs, but the USB is recognized

I’m having a similar issue I think, it’s detecting all usb but the hdmi is not detecting, it detected it before I set it up but I noticed it was tangled so I unplugged the hdmi and I tangled plugged back in and no connection since, tried everything I’ve found, even rebooted my pc, hoping we can find a fix, already ordered replacement but would be nice if I can fix it and just cancel the replacement
I don't know if it did appear as display or not however it recognized the USB ports even on my brother's computer but not the HDMI port (Again, Even on my brother's computer) so rip, It has to be a problem or we are both unlucky and have two PCs which just don't work with it, Either way i'm seeing to get a replacement to day and am hoping for the best of luck
